We're having....
Nothing.
I mean it. My husband hasn't shopped, he's going out tonight, and I'm home with a sick kid. So there is nothing planned.
Maybe chocolate pudding.

You made me feel guilty Seraph. Okay, I'll grill a bunch of chicken, serve the brisket I made today with the roast potatoes and the antipasti and I will defrost some frozen kubbe thingies to eat during the day.
We have melon and rimon for dessert.
I made those cookies thinking I will take them to the neighbor but every time I see the mess on my mirpesset it makes me not want to go over there. And he's not been out yet tonight yelling into his cell phone, either.

Did you make the choc dump bars with oil? If yes, please share recipe.
I made veal stew, peanut butter cookies and mini potato borekas (not homemade.) I cut up veggies. I'm too tired to cook anymore. I have a frozen meatloaf that I may defrost. Or frozen breaded schnitzel. Good thing there's no guests this week.

I forgot I made apple kugel and have yerushalmi in the freezer.
DUMP BARS (very rich and fudgy)
2 c. sugar
1 3/4 c. flour
5 eggs
1 tsp. salt
1 c. oil
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. cocoa
1 c. chocolate chips
Dump all ingredients except chocolate chips together in a bowl. Mix with spoon until all ingredients are moistened. Spread in greased 9x13 pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top (do not stir). Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool; cut into bars.
(NOTE: I found that the sugar and salt don't dissolve so easily, so I mix the sugar with the salt and oil and add the eggs and vanilla, then let it sit for a bit before adding the flour and cocoa. When the bars cool, I cut them in squares, leaving them in the pan, and put the whole thing in the frrezer. They tend to stick to the bottom of the pan so use baking paper. I also add some coconut on the bottom so the bars don't stick.)

My menu is nothing major this week, but we're having yerushalmi kugel, a la Tamiri's recipe - for the first time. I just had to post to tell you, Tamiri, that the kugel is in the oven right now and it looks gorgeous! Just like a real yerushalmi kugel! I'm very excited. Thanks for the recipe.

how do you makethis? | Hotmamas recipe. Its posted in the sfardic cooking section, in a thread titled chicken and spaghetti.
Quote: | its technically called "Djaj (chicken) w Rishta".
What you need is - a whole chicken (or you can use whateve ryou chicken you want but traditionally its done with a whole chicken)
veg oil
3 garlic cloves chopped
paprika
salt
1 onion chopped
1 lb spaghetti
allspice
cinnamon
6-oz can tomato paste
What I do is I first season the chicken with the oil, garlic, paprika and a bit of salt. Then pour about a cup of water in the roaster and add the onions. Cover and roast for about an hour.
Take out of oven, remove chicken from roaster and let cool. If using a while chicken the you can either cut it or just leave whole. Your preference. Make sure to leave all the juices in the roaster. This will be used for the pasta later.
While chicken is cooling, boil the spaghetti but only cook it until it is HARDER THAN AL DENTE. So really do NOT cook it all the way. Plus make sure you are using a full pound of pasta, I made the mistake of using one BOX which was only half a lb.
Then, add your allspice, cinnamon, and about a tbs of salt to the juices in the roaster. Add tom paste and mix well. then combine with the spaghetti. Place chicken on top or tuck in between the pasta. Cover and bake for about 2 hours or so until chicken is extremely tender and pasta is crispy.

Well you know, it's the tone of the home not just the food that makes Shabbos

I sure hope so. When my husband was leaving, I called out, "See you tonight...for sandwiches!" He didn't smile. I'll try for a nice tone.
Maybe I'll look for odds and ends. I don't think my chocolate pudding will be such a disappointment. It's made from scratch and I use good quality chocolate.
