beautiful blessings, here is the recipe.
It works wonderfully with Ferencz's Mama Farfel (8 oz.)
https://www.allinkosher.com/p-......aspx

[I plan on trying it with Osem's Heimishe Farfel (8.8 oz.) this week (the consistancy of the farfel is similar), which is sometimes easier to find.
http://www.allinkosher.com/p-4.....aspx]

I never heard of that Mama Farfel - I'll check it out next time I order. Where can I find the recipe?
Here's the recipe.

FYI, I tried the Osem farfel this week and it was NO comparison to the Ferencz's. It tasted kind of stale. Sad

ra_mom, I made this farfel a few times with the Ferencz's farfel. It always came out kind of mushy, so I ended up baking it a bit more with the cover off to make it crispy. It ended up as a farfel kind of kugel, that I cut pieces out of.
Is this how it's supposed to be? If not, how do you get it to be different?

I'm sorry it hasn't worked for you. Sad
I've only had it mushy when I didn't toast it long enough, or didn't bake it at a high enough temperature.
Many people here have said they use other farfels for this recipe, so maybe use the one your family usually likes instead of the Ferencz's.

(It does kind of clump together after a while though, so I always keep it covered without peeking until I'm ready to serve. Once it clumps together, it breaks up easily with a fork though no problems.)

So should I toast it more? I tried it with Osem also--same thing. What temperature is ideal?

Maybe you don't like the small crumbly farfel. So use the little squarish ballies, or whichever you like.
I preheat the oven at 400 until it is very hot. Then I toast the farfel together with the oil and spices, uncovered, for 13 minutes. Add water. Cover pan. Bake 1 hour at same temp.

I hope it comes out better next time.

gosh you mothers out there are really nice wives/mothers. with the menu and all!
my kids would like either pizza or baked ziti just about every night, but it would be nice if I cooked a full meal every night like all you seem to!
lately I make the more filling meal lunch (yes I live in israel) as my kids come home from cheder wiith big appetites and by the time they eat dinner 4 hours later they arent as hungry. I would rather they filled up on schnitzel and potatoes than on grilled cheese. so now I started to do two meals during the week fleishigs ( something that my kids will eat) and the other days are either leftovers/ or pasta/pizza (homemade with 85% w/w flour)/ frozen veggie burgers or what not
and for dinner PBJ is up there on my husbands meal list , if there isnt some other leftover sometihng to eat.
when im very good I make a salad for dinner and now that its not 100 degrees anymore (even though its not exactly cold here), I make a pot of vegetable soup on sunday or monday and thats good for the week for dinner.
ive only been living here for 10 yrs but somehow I seem to have forgotten what I ate growing up for lunch. sandwiches?

I know its terrible to compare but I still feel like everyone else is making these well balanced, restaurant sounding meals every night, that I would probably only make for shabbos or something special.
and by the time I get to shabbos im so sick of the same things every week that I dont make too much!
