I am 45 years old. I have had lots of different positions throughout the years.
Both office and retail.
I sent my resume to recruiters. Sent my resume to a few ads I saw. And nothing.
Everyone keeps telling me I’m a catch. Any boss would be lucky to have me. But no one is even answering.
It’s so discouraging.
I left my last job to go work for my husband. But that has failed. And I need to find something else.
I’m so lost. I don’t know what to do.

Use websites, go to Indeed, LinkedIn, and apply a lot. Last time I remember I applied to like 30 places and got 3 interviews.

That’s really rough, I’m sorry!
It’s really probably not anything you’re doing wrong. This economy is trash. Did you see the voice article about inflation and the job economy in Lakewood the other week?

How long have you been trying? The market is tough these days, but I know how discouraging that can feel.
I was in your place a while ago. Looking back I realize I should’ve enjoyed my freedom while it lasted. I did get a job at one point and I miss the days I was free to do whatever I wanted. All I did back then was worry about not getting a job.

I can’t enjoy my freedom when my mortgage has to get paid and my credit card bills are just mounting. I can hardly sleep at night from the stress. I’m constantly in tears. I’m not handling it.
I feel like the non Jewish sites won’t help me much. I don’t have a degree. In anything. I would definitely have more luck in the Jewish job market. My job experience doesn’t convert well elsewhere.

I hope this will make you feel better, it's not you. We were recently looking to hire and we got about 30 resumes from one ad in the bp. There is nothing available.
I hope you find something really quickly.

I can do almost anything. I’m not just out of school so I would like something with better pay. I can do mostly full time. I can work in an office. I can work retail. But I would rather not retail unless the pay is really good.
I don’t want something entry level. Let’s just say. I love to work. I can’t stay home. They loved me at my last job. They would hire me back in a heartbeat (they even keep calling me) but we moved and it doesn’t make sense to travel back for that job.
I don’t want to out myself. But I was in a managerial position there. And I work very well with people. I’m a people person. I look good for my age. Dress well. I could do so many things.

The market is trash right now. You need to somehow stand out from the mountain of resumes everyone is receiving. Do you have contacts that could reach out for you and put in a good word?

Nursing home billing is hiring. LTC, places like that. Do you have any related experience, have you tried for this kinds of jobs? Also how do you feel about your resume? Your interviewing skills? Are you not getting interviews or not getting job offers? When you say you are looking to be paid well, what do those numbers look like?

I don’t have billing experience. And I sent my resume to recruiters and to email addresses that I have seen on ads. And haven’t heard back.
I’m not looking for 25 dollars an hour. A seminary graduate gets that. And that won’t pay any of my bills. I would like at least 70k+.

I'm sorry, but saying that you can do anything isn't really a marketable skill. Choose something specific, or take some mini courses to help you gain experience in a specific field.
Medical billing is a good example. It's a couple of months and they teach you the ropes
70k is unrealistic. The girls don't start out making 70k

Unless you have a real stand out skill 70k today will be tough. What hours are you looking for?
Or go for lower and show how you stand out so you can move on to higher.
You need to show if you have more experience or are more reliable than the new seminary graduates. Otherwise you aren’t worth the higher salary.

I don’t want to out myself cuz I was in a very specific field before. But I tried that. Sent my resume to that field. And they aren’t hiring. And I’m not a seminary graduate. Been in the work force for over 25 years. I should be worth more than a seminary graduate.
And yes. I can work 9-5.

You are worth more, but that’s the thing. People want cheap labor these days. They don’t necessarily want someone worth more. That’s why men have a harder time finding jobs. They’re looking for more money. In general in this market employers want someone cheap *and* experienced, that’s why they’d rather hire overseas.
Hopefully Trump’s policies will change things for the better. I’m so sorry you’re in this situation, it’s rough!

If you're not hearing back when you send in your resume it's possible that your resume has room to be strengthened. I would suggest going thru this article and seeing if you could improve it. https://www.askamanager.org/20......html
In general AAM is a great resource for lots of career related stuff so you may find her blog useful. It's also possible that 70K is high if you are breaking into a new field. Even lowering your request to 60K may help you break in.

If you can work 9-5 you are more likely to get what you are asking. Hatzlacha. Hope you find soon.
I would think focusing on your field and presenting yourself as experienced, reliable and full time will help a lot.
