Written and spoken Yiddish are sooooo different nowadays, it’s almost 2 different languages.

A lot of these words are actually in German!
Like faschiert means minced can refer to chicken or meat.
Badewanne means bathtub.
Handtuch is a towel etc....

Wow. I haven’t thought of that story in 30 years and reading this thread somehow brought it back . I used to sit on my grandmas lap and she would tell me that story over and over again . I loved it . I should call her now and make her tell it to me again . But I probably shouldn’t sit on her lap while she tells it because I would most likely crush her .
