Iodine can trigger hyperthyroidism. If I were OP I'd be very nervous doing this unless I was under supervision.

It’s 18 degrees (feels like 4) where I live right now. I swear by the lands end floor length puffer coats. I buy Black Friday for half off, lasts forever. Bought bearpaw boots that were rated excellent for the Yukon and Alaska… no joke. I would suggest at least those two to start.

If your doctor only tests TSH you are seeing the wrong doctor.

There is a book called The Endless Steppe by Esther Hautzig that describes how she survived WWII in Siberia and how she and her family had to deal with the extreme cold. It was like what we have going on right now in NY for the majority of their year. (They were there for a few years). It was a pachad. When I walk around these days I feel like the hallelukas where they say Hashem brings the snow, from before His cold who can stand?

I agree. It's been a frigid winter. I actually did not even own a coat the last few years and I bought myself a coat a few weeks ago. What I don't understand is, my baby goes to a babysitter and today was the 4th or fifth time I've seen people bring their babies in with no socks, no coats. Nothing just thin outfits. And one day last week someone brought their baby in an undershirt. I feel like I'm the only one that bundles my baby up even though we are in and out of the car.

I live in Toornto.
I grew up with this weather

Seriously, when I am this cold I think of my father who was a holocaust surviver & think of how in the world did he survive in way worse conditions than me. & then I feel so grateful for my warm car and house
You need to reframe.
I didn’t read this whole thread but cmon

25 isn't so bad when it's sunny and there's no ice. But when it's cloudy and there's a windchill, sorry, it's brutal. And I'm sure your father was so grateful that you didn't have to go through this.
Look, you brought up some great perspective. But you have to frame it as, This is what works for me. Maybe it can help you too.

I didn’t finish reading but can you splurge on a remote car starter?
It makes a huge difference.

Also I recently bought a heated vest on Black Friday sale. I mostly wear it indoors because I’m cold inside too but can be worn under a coat.

I can relate, and I am not from the US so I can't even imagine how I would survive living there now. I have Reynauds', which essentially means that a soon as my body gets a little cold my body can't heat itself back up, my fingers become stiff, frozen and bloodless, everything you described and it can take hours for me to rewarm unless I get into a hot shower for active rewarming, not particularly helpful at work. It's miserable and it literally puts me out of comission and feel like my body has shut down.
For me this is for a regular winters day, every winter for the past few years.

What helps me:
1. Battery heated vest. I gave two, and each one has a spare battery so I never find myself without the ability to warm myself. It is especially effective under another layer such as a jacket or coat.

2. Battery-heated everything else you can find. I have heated socks, pants and a neck warmer, all have spare batteries.

3. Layers especially on my legs and feet. The hardest part for me as a frum woman in winter is the problem with wearing pants, because tights or leggings are simply not as warm as tights/leggings under a pair of warm pants. Even two pairs of leggings on top of each other don't cut it the same way. This year I decided that enough is enough, I need to stay warm to be functional so on very cold days I wear leggings and pants, and when leaving the house I either wear a skirt over that and look ridiculus or a long coat which I then can't take off.
But if you won't do that, wearing leggings made of 100% silk and another regular pair on top of them is more helpful than just two regular pairs.

4. I carry bags of chemical hand and body warmers everywhere in the winter, together with little cloth reusable tea bags to put them in becausec they aren't supposed to directly touch your skin.

5. Electric sheet on my bed.

6. Drinking hot tea throughout the day sometimes helps. They recommend staying away frim coffee as it constricts blood vessels so I do that.

I've also heard recommendations to put cinnamon in socks and gloves, I've never tried that myself but probably worth trying.

Hope this helps!

Dont hate me but I love this weather. I dont need to run to watch my kids outside, I dont need to feel bad Im not taking them to the park. Every one is home and finished. And the plus side, its quiet outside. If you live in the city its really hard. I have neighbors who play all afternoon in the backyard and then the bigger boys play at night and the attitude is " my house I can do what I want." so I honestly love this weather. Yes the kids are a little antsy but its worth it. I hate going to the park every day with them....

Agree

Winter is so much easier than summer!! I hate the park and spending hours outside
I love that it's dark at 5:00 and everyone is happy indoors. Im so sad that we're changing the clock soon and it's gonna be light out longer

This.
"Megafoods" had a herbs supplement mix called "thyroid support". (It has iodine too) Thyroid issues run in my family, and I was having issues with hunger signals. Feeling hungry often and never feeling satiated. I was often cold and low energy. Checked my thyroid amongst other things. Everything was normal. The saleslady at healthfood store recommended this vitamin. It has changed my life.
I don't feel cold all day. Im able to hande the outdoors a lot better. My energy levels are really good bh. And best of all, I actually feel real hunger and after a decent meal I feel satiated. I even lost 10 lbs (out of the 50 I need to loose) just by eating the same basic healthy foods and exersizing. (Now that I have the energy to exersize!)

I'd stroll recommend you try it. It can take up to a few weeks to get the full benefits. It took me 3 weeks.
Mr sister tried it too. It took her almost as long. But after just 3 days I felt improvement.

Unfortunately they are pretty big, it was harder in the beginning. It slips down your throat well. I guess it's coated. I got used to it pretty quickly though.

Also there are electric hand warmers that are rechargeable to keep in your pockets

And heated gloves (haven’t tried).
And heated socks or insoles for boots. (Haven’t tried)

For at home, there are heated mattress pads or blankets.

Some people just feel the cold more than others.
It’s not about the temp it’s about how it feels to your body.

Hope some stuff here helps you!
