Midday

friday afternoon then? so how are people hungry for shabbat dinner?
that means probably less running around and dropping off SM if shabbos prep has to also be done?

It tends to be less of a madhouse, and less delivery of mishlochei manot to people who live further away.

You really need to have Shabbos ready beforehand, but Friday night meal is relatively light, since people have been eating all day. Purim seudah is middayish and you want to finish at least an hour before Shabbos, to allow time to clear up. Some people hear Megillah at vatikin, to allow more time in the day.

There is a minhag some people follow to have the seuda late, and extend it into the Shabbos meal, making kiddush half way through. Its fairly complicated, and halachically questionable, but it can be done. I don't remember the details, but I think you need a minyan, so you can daven Kabbalat Shabbat and Maariv without leaving the table. I'm sure it will come up nearer the time!

Something tafel, made to enhance a food, may not qualify as its own min since it's not meant to be eaten separately. While challah obscures hilchos brachos due to being hamotzi, you can still tell that it's tafel because if you served the dip with crackers or pretzels, you wouldn't make a separate bracha. It's not considered its own food portion to be included in the two required according to many poskim.

I beg to differ. Well, it depends on the dip. I don't do mayonnaise dips, only babaganouch, other chatzilim dishes like matbucha, and chumus, all of which I, at any rate, eat all by themselves. I also eat peanut butter and techina straight, with a spoon. And so do lots of other people whether they admit it or not.

I just finished eating some chocolate spread from the jar (because I'm craving sugar, on a diet, got myself fleishig so the milk chocolate wouldn't tempt me, and don't have any parve sugar in the house - and no fruit doesn't count)

definitely not potato kugel

Why not? I was thinking of sending a challah, a potato kugel, and some kind of cake.
