The only references I can think of in Tanach are from Eicha, all in a rather negative context of אין לה מנחם. There is the famous gemara that Menachem will be one of the names of Mashiach.
ETA
I just went to look in a Concordance, and Menachem is first recorded as a name in sefer Malachim.
He was King of Israel (the northern kingdom), but not a descendant of Malchut Beit David, and not at all a nice person.

R' Chaim's own daughter's name is Nechama so I wouldn't worry.

I am sure that when R‘ Chaim was nixing names, he didn’t mean Chaya or Nechama… people took his words and blew them out of proportion

Toba is a Yiddish name. It ends in aleph. It means dove. A name given after Toba is sometimes Yona, Yonit or Yonina. Yona means dove.
Tova ending in heh means good. |
There was a Tova on her list as well.

Exactly what I warned. The first Toba was a local prononciation. The second could be either. Thanks for not misreading a hard work.
Ftr my oldest IS Toba.

I know this because when we were looking for a pasuk with the name, there were none to be found, and we ended up having to use a quote from the midrash or gemara (I don't remember which). In that context it was used as a word, not a name.
It may have originated as a feminine form of Nechemya. |
When you say a pasuk for your name you say a pasuk that starts with the first letter of your name and ends with the last letter, not a pasuk that has the name in it. There are many psukim in Tanach that start with nun and end with heh. You’ll find many nice ones in Tehillim but there are more in Chumash and Navi.

In this context we specifically wanted a pasuk that included the name.
Since it didn't exist, we went with a quote from Chazal.

I’m not sure I understand you. If you’re talking about the pasuk you say in Elokai netzor before you end shmone essrei, you need a pasuk from Tanach starting and ending with the same letters as the name. If you wanted a pasuk with the name in it for some other reason, that’s up to you.

Precisely. We wanted something specifically mentioning her name.
Since that doesn't exist in Tanach, we went with the next best option. We've done the same with other names, like Shraga.

A vague attempt at Shira, knowing that it's mistaken with Tsira/Chira and Shraga ("Shiraga), with a female we avoid the second one
There is a mention of a bris in 1888 with a mother Shira in RIGA
April
1834
KOPELIOVICH Shira wife of Froim F
28 year old KURENETS
In Courland I find Natan Shira and Ester Shira as names.. It is strange.

I know someone's grandmother is Tova Yona Yonit, maybe she was named after a Toba....

Yes, and when my great grandmother Buena zal passed they absolutely insisted on writing Tova on the grave. The family was mourning and let it happen. But she was never Tova. I bet (but unsure) the name Buena is older. It was used pre expulsion and under Bona it was used in ancient times.

What's the source for April 1834? One of those surnames appears in my family tree.

R’ Chaim Kanievsky? Are you sure? As far as I knew he had five daughters who were Chana, Leah, Rus, Bracha, and Dina.
