Don’t see it in the psukim with the first letter & last letter (list of names at the back of a suddur)

No first letter heh with a samuch at the end.

My dd wants to give this name - after my mil - but she thinks it’s not a real name

Anyone have an answer for us ?

It's a very real name. Not all names have a pasuk in the siddur, but that doesn't mean there is no pasuk for it.

My daughter’s middle name is Hadas. She was born during Sukkos and we love it. Some people only name using names from Tanach, but we’re of the approach that something with Jewish significance that anyone uses as a name is good to use. Our rav only said just don’t pick anything super suuuper Israeli that’ll make your kids weird if you end up staying in Chutz L’aretz. RW MO so many people make aliyah in our circles.

The lists in siddurim are far, far, far from comprehensive lists of "real" names.

A name without a pasuk is still a name. My cousin Sima doesn't have a pasuk so her family asked a shaila and was told to use a pasuk ending with a hei instead.

It’s a very real name… and beautiful too!

It was my Bubby’s name and I named my daughter after her. I know other families who’ve named their daughter Hadas as well.

I know many girls and women named Hadas (including a few family members) and I think it's a beautiful name. Definitely "real".

...it's the parent if babys decision to name their child. They should choose a name that sits well and they will be proud of. Please encourage dd to name her child whatever she wants and chooses with her husband and not feel obligated to do something to please others

Thanks! I never used a posuk before. What's the source for this whole posuk thing anyway? What's the point?

Many people don't do pasuk.
If there's a list of common names I bet most of my girls names aren't there. AFAIK you just need first and last letter.

In shmone esrei, at the end of Elokai Netzor, it’s a minhag to say a passuk for your name. If you have more than one name, you say a passuk for each name. The passuk for a name can be from anywhere in Tanach. It should start with the first letter of the name and end with the last letter. The reason we say it is because after 120 when we come before the בית דין של מעלה we’re overcome with fear and awe to the point we forget our own name and this will help us remember. The Chafetz Chaim discusses this and it’s brought down other places too. There are a couple of real names that don’t have a passuk that starts and ends with their first and last letters. That doesn’t make the name not real. If you have more questions, I’m sure your lor can tell you more. If there are any non Ashkenaz imas reading, I’m curious if this is a Sephardic minhag too.
