If the match goes out while you are lighting candles are you allowed to relight the match from one of the candles you already lit?
Is there a difference between shabbos and yom tov for this?

I don't see why it should be a problem. It's not chanukah candles where you can't use the light

One of my children learned that you're not allowed to relight the match from one of the existing lit wicks.
Wondering if this is something generally accepted that I've never heard of or just one rav's opinion.
Also would like to know why

You're not supposed to go down in kedusha, so to light a candle from a candle is fine as they're both part of the lights you're making a bracha on, but to take a flame from one of kedusha to light something that's just a "helper" (the match you don't make a bracha on), that you're not supposed to do.

Thanks for this explanation.
I heard that's why you're supposed to hold the match at the wick for a second so the flame is one and then you can use the match to light the other wicks. Is that not the case?

My father told us that you are not supposed to take from a candle on which a Bracha was or will be made. This is for shabbos OR Yom tov, it doesn’t make a difference.

You can use the match to light multiple candles/wicks, but should use a candle/wick to light the match.
That's why on Y"T we have an extra 2-3 day candle sitting for just this purpose- a candle we aren't using to make a bracha on.

I'm not sure I'm understanding your question, but when lighting (Shabbos/YT/Chanukah), you're supposed to hold the lit match/candle to the inner you're lighting long enough that the one being lit fully forms its own flame, and not just a quick touch. Is that what you are referring to?
The helper candle/match can always be used to light other candles as you're not making a bracha on it.
And you can use one candle you're saying a bracha on to light another candle you're saying a bracha on for Shabbos/YT.

You're talking about YT to transfer a flame, since you can't create a new one, right?

When I light the match originally I use a separate candle or flame from stove. But I'm asking about if it goes out while in middle of lighting the candles. Do you go back to the extra candle or stove to relight the match?

Yes you're supposed to.

Right. So it's the same concept of holding the lit match to the candle so it forms a full flame and then you're not taking away from the candle flame because the match now has its own flame.

I don't think this is a thing. You can use the helper match to light the candle you'll be making a bracha on, and use the match to light another candle you're making a bracha on, without needing to hold the match to the candle extra nor form a full flame.

So funny I always have the same question.
Whats if your in a rush to light and your match gets extinguished. Is it preferable to strike another match or to just relight it from a lit candle?

I don't think it's for this reason. Even if you were to use a candle you are making a bracha on, you're supposed to light it fully that it forms its own flame. It has to do with actually accomplishing the hadlaka.

You can use a candle (if you use candles) that is part of your Shabbos candles to light or strike a new match, either is fine.
(I personally use a lighter.)
ETA: note that I specified Shabbos candles, this is not ok for YT

Wait I almost always run out of match mid lighting shabbos candles and just put a match to the already lit candles to continue lighting the rest. Is that an issue?
For yt I bring one of my shabbos candles over to my 2day candle and use a match to light it. Then I bring the kit candle back to my other candles and use a match to transfer the light the rest of my candles. That's a problem?

Thanks all.
I've been doing it wrong and will now try to be more careful.
It's harder for me because due to safety, especially on yt, the extra candle is not easily accessible so if the match goes out going to relight it is annoying.

I learned that you cannot light from on of your Shabbos candles even to light another, that you need to light a new match.
