I can't bear the thought of DS not taking a paci - my babies aren't easy, and the one who didn't take a paci was the hardest
He's 10 days old. Not loving his cherry teat Tommee Tippee. At what point do I try another type? At what point do I assume he's not taking one at all?!
Any tips in general???

All my kids loved the advent soothie
Although I switched to ninni now
Interestingly one kid never took a pacifier or a bottle (but breastfed just fine) and has a tongue tie

Buy a whole bunch and try them all. Another trick as he begins sucking gently tug it a little to make his muscles suck harder this is how u train to take a paci rather than push it in and force etc

Try straight away.
Gave my babies always the MAMs and one didn't take it, straight away tried different ones and ended up she took the one from the hospital.

Mams brand worked best for me. Much easier to keep in their mouth than the soothie

So the consensus is don't wait, just try other kinds asap... How do I know which one will be 'it', something he starts sucking on quickly? Takes happily?
Aaargh, I am so overwhelmed right now and now another thing.

It can take some effort to get a baby to take a pacifier. I found holding it in their mouth and rocking works… even if they’re crying at first keep holding it in and they usually eventually latch on

Check for tongue tie. Not able to take a pacifier is a symptom.

This. Paci culture is out of control.

ill add, that my first didnt like it. I tried a few diff kinds but never forced her and she didnt take it.
my baby (6 mo) now takes it and it helps soothe her. but when she spits it out I dont force it back into her mouth. Anyway paci use isnt great, in a way its good your baby isnt taking it. Sometimes I get nervous my baby takes it since I know pacifiers aren't popular amongst most SLPs (I am a SLP), for a variety of reasons, mostly to do with orofacial development.

Please, you can train a baby to take a paci. And nothing wrong with it. Much better than sucking their fingers. Helps them learn to self sooth.

Keep offering it, at some point they take it as a toy, until they learn to enjoy it and get attached to it😀

It’s not one or the others. My babies never sucked their fingers and never took paci

Some baby's have a need to suck.those will automatically be pacifier or finger sucking baby's. Not every baby has a need to suck.all humans don't self sooth in the same way.
Thus baby just may not be interested in having their mouth plugged.
