At a certain point in your life you come to realize that the people who will be friends with you have nothing to do with what brands you and your kids wear. They will like you for who you are. Its their loss. I am sure there are nice people around that you can make friends with. There are all types.

I think currently, American kids' fashion has picked up on some trends that have been "in" in frum fashion for a while (moving away from words and characters; styles that are a lot lot more bland and neutral in general), and right now Carters has plenty of clothing that would look normal in Lakewood.
Whether Lakewood people actually wear it, I don't know.
I live in town and when I had a baby, some of the ladies on the block bought me baby presents that were Carters.
OP, I can relate to your interest in keeping up with the trends not because you care about them, but because you want people to not see you as a Martian. I hope you can find a way to live your non-materialistic values proudly and find that other people respect you for it.
Just remember that if you start to get all judgy about how judgy your neighbors are, you are not being any better than you perceive them to be. It is judgmental to assume that your fancy neighbors think you're a Martian! They're probably much nicer than that.
(And whatever message I'm giving to you, it's because I'm working on it myself.)

No it has nothing to do with where you live. It has to do with who you hang out with and who you are trying to impress and being comfortable and confident in who you are and realizing whats important in life. If I lived in Lakewood I would dress my child the same way!

Words are fine and actually trendy it just depends on the overall style and fit

Thanks. You’re totally right. It’s something I try to work on too. It’s just hard sometimes because I miss my friends from my hometown and I know they all dress their kids in these.
Thanks all! I appreciate all your input.

So I need to not be an outcast. I don’t mind not being the most in, I just wanted to know if it’s akin to like wearing clothes backwards. Will other people be like what is wrong with that mother. |
Please find the people in lakewood who dont see a problem with dressing your boy in trucks and words and dinosaurs and what not.
I PROMISE you it is the best investment in friendship you can ever make.
These people will like you for who you are, will not judge you or your house or your bar mitzvah or your car etc and will have you feeling happy and comfortable spending time with them.
I know because I am one of those people lol, and so are my awesome friends.
I'd invite you to come get to know us but we live in monsey...

I used to live there before Lakewood. It was not chilled. We had a terrible time fitting in. It’s very uptight about what they care about. You have to do certain things or you are an outcast. Life in Lakewood is definitely way more chill overall.

Totally fine! I might not be the best person to ask though cuz my kids wear Walmart, target, old navy tees with black or denim shirts 🤷♀️
I usually don’t do graphic tees and very picky with words.
I live in Manchester, so not Lakewood per se. Some of my Lakewood sibs would not be caught dead with their kids dressed the way my kids dress though…

And I thought Lakewood was a community to look up to. I live in a large OOT community and we are constantly told to look at Lakewood, Ir HaTorah, role models and all that entails.
Sorry but I appreciate the accepting of everyone where I live. Yes, some people wear Lakewood style (I wouldn't call it Jewish Style. It is a Lakewood/NY phenomenon). But if my kid shows up in carter's or children's place everyone treats them the same. No social suicide here. We recommend target and children's place all the time. It is cute when a few kids the class is wearing the same target shirt. And no. It isn't a solid or "Lakewood style".

That’s the issue with believing one person’s thoughts as reality. There is no one style in Lakewood! Kids wear everything including carters. And now look how many people believed these lies and are now further passing it on as truth.
