I was given this thing and would like instructions on how to actaully cook it in the cholent. I was reading that some take out of plastic, while some leave in. What I cant find though is whether I should defrost it before putting in the cholent? Can someone who did this before successfully walk me through from a-z?

But do you defrost first?

Not necessarily. We try to partially defrost meat that we are putting in cholent, but doesn't always happen. Either way turns out fine imo.

If you put it directly in the chollent then the whole chollent will have a pastrami flavor. We don’t like that.

I take it out of the wrapper and use it like chollent meat. Chollent comes out delicious.
I like to rinse off the surface pickling spices, this works better when meat is defrosted. Otherwise, I don't see why you can't put it in frozen.
