Typically flanken is sold in a package of 2 large slices for around $19. It's a lot of money but cholent is our staple food on shabbos so I use 1 package for my cholent. For 6 eaters how many slices would you put in. I'm finding my cholent lacks the good flavor it had when I used a smaller crockpot perhaps due to the water to flanken ratio.

For extra flavor at a low cost I add beef fat that is sold at my local Gourmet Glatt. Super cheap and adds the meat flavor that's needed for a great cholent.
(I do it not so much for financial reasons but more because my family doesn't eat a lot of meat and it hurts me to throw out good meat at the end of shabbos. So I just put in enough meat that will get eaten and the rest is beef fat.)

I use meat bones. Very cheap. Gives tons of flavor. And 1/2 flanken pkg. freeze the other half for next week.
Does the meet get finished every week?
