"I know how to make jelly beans," he tells me yesterday. The truth was I wasn't even paying attention to him since I was concentrating on something else and he had been talking my ear off already for minutes on end. I almost missed this:
"You put jelly on beans, put them in the oven, and when they're done they turn into jelly beans!"
I did a double-take when his words replayed in my head, and was impressed by how thought-out and logical that was. I had to disappoint him a bit and tell him that's not quite how it's done, but I told him about how Hashem gave him such a smart kup and I'm so proud that he's using it to figure things out.
(He can probably count on his fingers the number of jelly beans he's eaten in all of his almost 5 yrs, ka"h.)
Later on in the day he pointed to his leg and thoughtfully said, "A leg "goes," but why is my toy called "Lego????"
LOL, he'll never cease to amaze me, B"H.

that is so cute.... I remember when my son came up with the recipe for seltzer - you take water and put soap in it... that's what makes all the bubbles! He must've been about 3 when he came up with that piece of brilliance! Lotsa nachas!

Lol it reminds me of the time my 3yr old son tells his sister about his older brother "mummy called him Mendy because #1. he is named after the Rebbe and #2, because he he mends things"
Logical I guess

If only the world was so simple as kids think it to be.
My son also has it stuck in his mind that there are vegetables growing under the sidewalk. We passed by workers laying an underground pipe and he peered down to try and get a glimpse of the vegetables he's sure is down there. I told him countless times that vegetables grow in earth on a farm not in the city under the sidewalk, but this is the same kid who only recently started to understand that the only animals we see in the street here are dogs, cats, birds, and squirrels. Once we passed a black and white spotted dog, and he says: Look a cow! and another time a shaggy dog was absolutely definitely a lion. At least he finally got that straight in his mind, so I'm waiting patiently for him to understand about vegetables not growing up through the pavement.

Very cute! Love the language lines! My daughter's from when she was around that age: "Do you know why it's called 'gan'? Because when I'm there, I'm 'gone'!"

They did that in school. That's where he got this all from in the first place. He can't seem to differentiate between earth and sidewalk. Once something gets stuck in his head, I can explain from today till tomorrow, but it will be stuck there until he grows out of it, I guess.
If he doesn't go to camp this summer I'd like to take him to some different farms to help him understand about fruits and vegetables growing, and which animals belong on a farm, which ones in a zoo, and which ones in the city. We'll see.
For now he makes me smile. I should write down all these things he says so he can read it when he's older. The nice thing about this stage is that little things like this can make you smile every time you remember it no matter how many years down the road it is.
