Can I freeze a CRANBERRY APPLE KUGEL . how many days in advn

I wanted to know if I can freeze a kugel like this. and also if I just wanted to make it in advance and leave it in the fridge how many days ahead will it still be good for ?/ thanx

it can be frozen. I like to bake it about 10 minutes less than done. then when you defrost and re-bake it tastes very fresh and yummy.

I don't know for sure how long it lasts in the fridge, but I would imagine for sure 2 days.

I've made this kugel & kept it in the freezer for about 4 months. It freezes beautifully. When I was ready to bake it, I took it out of the freezer & put it directly in the oven to bake. It was amazing! You couldn't tell that it was frozen beforehand!
Are you talking about the apple/cranberry kugel with oatmeal? That's the one I'm talking about.

I forgot to mention that I only assemble it, then put it in the frezer completely raw. I bake it fully before serving.

crumble for top & bottom:
3 c. flour
3 c. oats
1 1/2 c. oil
3 tsp. cinnamon
1 1/2 c. brown sugar

filling
20 apples, peeled & grated or sliced
1 can whole cranberry sauce

-divide crumble in 1/2. Put 1/2 on bottom, filling then rest of crumble.
-bake at 350 for 1 hour.

henya thanks, but I thought and I actually tried a kugel with just cranberries, unless im not remembering right is there such a recipe?

20 apples???? Are you sure, ? what size pan do you bake that in shock

It sounds like an awful lot of apples to peel and slice.

The apples don't turn brown if not baked? I've frozen this baked & it's great. Also it lasts for about a week inthe fridge.

The recipe I use is 1 can of sauce to 4 or five apples. 20 sounds like a tremendous amount! 1 can is not enough sauce for that many apples.

Yes! you read correct! 1 can cranberry sauce for 20 appples. It is a big recipe. It makes 3-4 square dishes-depending on how high you want it. I usually make this big recipe, use 1 kugel & freeze the rest. It's 20 apples for 1 can cranberry sauce because otherwise we find it too sweet.

This is the recipe I use, it's great! I usually make it in a corningware, not lasagna as big as a lasagna sized foil pan.


CRANBERRY APPLE KUGEL
1 cup. jellied cranberry sauce
6 Macintosh apples
1/4 cup. flour
1/3 cup. sugar
Topping:

3/4 cup. oats
1/2 cup. flour
1/2 cup. brown sugar
1/2 cup. melted margarine
Cinnamon, to taste
Mix cranberry sauce, flour, and sugar. Peel, core, and slice apples thinly. Mix the apples into the cranberry mixture. Put apple mixture into a ungreased 8" pan.

Combine topping ingredients and spoon over kugel. Bake in a 350 degrees F oven for 45 minutes. Serve cold.

The lady I got the recipe from told me that the crumble was tripled. She didn't say anything about the filling. So, if you like lots of apples, keep it to 20, if you want less crumble, cut the recipe in 1/2 or 1/3. Make it according to how you like it.
