I gave a newborn and one older sibling woke up with a cough low fever and feeling sick. I hope it’s not flu but either way what do I do? As dc to stay in their room most if the day to avoid spreading germs?

There is nothing you can do this is just the reality of having kids. Don’t let the child touch the baby and wash your hands with soap before you touch the baby. That’s about all you can do. Refuah sheleima

How old a sibling? You can’t expect a 4 year old to chill in his room alone all day. A teenager on the other hand is probably happy to do that as long as you provide room service.

Is your husband home and able to take care of sibling all day?

Dc doesn’t need to be taken care j hands on, bh feeling decent and able to function on own with minimal help but has symptoms of a cough, low fever which can easily spread.

Dh not home, he took off a few days when baby was born and needs to be at work now.

BH we all got flu shots which I’m super grateful for now.

Leave the newborn in his crib. Take him out just to feed and change. And no one can go near him except you and your dh and make sure to sanitize/wash before

Mazel tov!
Speak to your pediatrician for advice.
Definitely try to keep the baby and sibling away from each other, don't share towels, wash hands, etc.
It's easier to keep a newborn away than confine older sibling. They sleep most of the time.
Keep baby sleeping in a room and dont allow kids to go into.

I had this this year. Kids were sick when baby was born. Doctor said keep baby far away in my bedroom but the kids wanted to hold her and it was impossible to keep her away. She ended up getting rsv. BH she was fine

Keep them apart as much as possible, nurse on demand. Newborns have immunity from the uterus still, but you need to keep them strong

So I think if he has what to entertain himself with (screens) you can ask him to stay away from baby.

Leave the baby in your room & no one goes in there but you. Use purell before touching the baby. Everyone at home should use purell.

When I have sick kids and a newborn I keep baby in my room or in a bassinett
stroller behind a door and wear a certain.robe out of toom to deal with other kids and take it off to hold baby.

Only necessary if you have kids little enough that need holding, lap, etc

Also lots of handwashing.

I think you should do your best to keep the baby in your room and care for it there as much as possible and no children may enter . It’s not fair to put the onus on the sick child to be confined to their room . It’s part of having babies in the winter and having older children home

Several of my children had shigella when my baby was 2 weeks old. It was a very very crazy post partum experience. I was running kids to bathroom washing hands running to nurse and dropping baby mid latch to run kid back to toilet and washing my hands again. I kept baby in my room and kids out. I spent lots of time disinfecting doorknobs and lightsitches as do anytime contagious illness is in house Bh baby didnt catch anything but I definitely lost my sanity

Are you nursing or pumping?
With young babies, its is the best protector against the infections at home, because your own body is building an immune response against your child's flu, and all those antibodies are protecting baby.

The closer you keep baby to you and the more you breastfeed, the more protected baby will be.
Stock up on xlear kids and a nasal aspirator.
Get a nebulizer and some saline.
Oscillicocinum if that's your style.
Take some good quality whole food c, astragalus, sugar free elderberry syrup and fermented garlic.
Iyh you'll all be OK.
