My son was born in the height of COVID, he had COVID at 3 weeks old,now at age for he’s extremely language delayed along with other issues.

I’m wondering if anyone else’s child has issues and had COVID as a baby.
I’m wondering if his issues are related??

Does anyone know?

If he was masked as a baby/toddler or deprived of seeing the faces of his teachers, it makes sense that that would delay him.

I wonder. My child was born shortly before the first wave. I had covid when he was under 3 months old and he might have had it too. Also extremely language delayed. I always blamed it on other things though. It's not like more kids that year are language delayed than on other years.

How did you know he had Covid then? I also had a newborn and someone in the household had covid but I don’t know if he had Covid or not.
He was language delayed, needed tubes.
He still needs help with processing and social skills.
I’ve never thought of Covid.

I had COVID, my husband got COVID also, he was literally sleeping for about 36 hours straight. I remember calling my dr, and he said this is the symptom of COVID for a baby.

Just pointing out I have some children who had healthy natural birth with no pandemics during infant hood and where diagnosed with speech and language delays

I know it doesn’t have to be and it could be a million different reasons.. but I’m wondering if there’s any correlation..

I don’t know the answer but you aren’t going to get it from anecdotal evidence on this website. I’m sure this is something that is being studied professionally and there’s a way to find out. I can tell you my most advanced baby was an infant during Covid but it doesn’t disprove what you’re saying .

My neurologist told me that it could be from COVID, but they don’t have enough research yet… they are definitely studying it…

Would you be willing to share? My son also has unique issues. Severe language delays, motor delays, severe eczema, other challenges.

What were his symptoms? Did he have a mild or severe case? Was he hospitalized? Was his oxygen level compromised?

His symptoms were very very sleepy, didn’t want to eat for about 36 hours. He wasn’t hospitalized and didn’t lose oxygen..

When did he start going to daycare/school? If his caregivers were masked, I would 100% attribute it to that. My child was born April 2020. Thankfully I never sent her to playgroup with masked morahs, but I noticed from a young age how much she stares at my mouth while I speak to her. Had I (or her other caregivers) been masked, I'm sure she'd be behind in speech/language.
