Stop claiming “such and such causes autism”
You know what causes increased rates of autism? Actually being able to diagnose kids with autism (specifically talking about higher functioning kids) who in the past would just be treated as weirdos.
You know what else causes increased rates of autism? More babies surviving long enough to be diagnosed with autism. You can’t convince me either of these are bad things.
Correlation is not causation, people.
I actually think that making these claims is highly irresponsible and a way to make moms of special needs kids feel worse about themselves “oh if only I gave less screen time/ processed food/ whatever”
I’ll agree that too much screen time or artificial food stuff can make kids behavior worse and that kids with asd are particularly sensitive to that stuff. but it doesn’t cause and if you’re an asd mom and just trying to survive I’m sos prey for all the **** people tell claim about asd. You didn’t cause it. I’ll get off my soapbox now.

Nobody is blaming or pointing fingers. Nobody hurts their child willingly. We're all just trying to help them in the best way possible and looking at causes is a way forward.

You're saying that such and such doesn't cause autism and then you're saying that more diagnoses causes an 'increase' in autism but you're not addressing what causes autism in first place. So maybe you can answer me what causes autism?

The question should be what does science say contributes to autism?
Because despite all professionals and Google saying "we have no idea what causes it", pubmed actually has loads of info if you know where to look.

What in your opinion does cause autism?
Genetics?
Question is can anything trigger the genetics.
How about sometimes.
I don't beleive vaccines cause autism I belive ppl with predisposed genetics might experience it worse after the vaccines.
Talking from my personal experiences.

I agree but without the genetic part, I don't believe autism has anything with genetics. I believe there are other predisposed issues (like a lot of heavy metals in the brain) that can be worsened by vaccines (since vaccines contain a lot of heavy metals).

I disagree with you. I'm in my 50s. Never had a kid in my class who presented as autistic in all my years of school. Never had autistic kid living on my street. None of my parents friends had autistic kids. To deny that it is way more prevalent today than it was when I was growing up in the 70's and 80's is just being dishonest IMO. And something has caused the uptick. I don't know what that something is. I have my suspicions of things that may be contributing. But I don't know.
P.S.... Why is this entertainment?

About the vaccines. Same here besides the flu vaccine with had been proven to increase the autism risk.

Those kids were all in institutions and people pretended they didn’t exist

Because in those years they put special needs kids in homes. How many Down syndrome kids did you know?? I bet not as many as you see today.

I also think that kids that present as basically normal can get an autism diagnosis these days. There are k”h hundreds of kids on my block. I don’t know offhand of any of them that has an ASD diagnosis, but I’m sure a bunch of them do.

But those weren't the kids that were hidden away in institutions 50 years ago

You know why so many kids are diagnosed as ASD? Because that’s where the funding is.
Half the kids with an ASD diagnosis really have other issues, such as processing issues, bad social skills, or overall low IQ. But they get an ASD diagnosis because that’s a way to access tons of funding. If funding were given based on what’s helpful to a child, but just their diagnosis, half the ASD diagnosis will disappear.
Stated as a mother of a child with a processing issue, who does not have ASD. And whomever she talks to, is told to just get an ASD diagnosis so her child can get the help they need.

In 1970 1 in 5,000 kids had Non Verbal autism.
Today around 1 in 100 kids have non verbal autism.
That is a 50x increase.
And don't tell me about better diagnosis because I am not referencing mainstream kids who are weird, only Non Verbal.
And 50 years ago, 1 in 100 kids who don't have Down Syndrome were NOT in institutions
So it is something environmental that triggered the autism skyrocketing.
And the autism spike started after CDC quadrupled the number of vaccines.
And autism is listed on vaccine inserts and vaccine court has paid settlement for autism vaccine injury.

Very premature babies are at risk for many different disabilities, including non-verbal autism.
There are preemies who grow up and get diagnosed with autism today when babies born at their gestational age would never have survived a week in the not so distant past.
