Going to Uman for Rosh Hashana

I once read a list of the 5 places that have the most people on Rosh Hashana, and Uman topped the list with tens of thousands. And not only Breslovers go, but people from all walks of life.

I have a friend who's husband went to Uman. The wives and children usually stay behind. My husband would love to go, but I don't see myself celebrating Rosh Hashana without him Wink

Our neighbour who works for my husband goes every year. He is a Breslover. He leaves his wife/kids. I found this really hard to understand until I realized that she probably doesn't mind as she isn't frum and spends the chag with her mother.

Did you know that if you bring a child to Uman before the age of 8, he is guaranteed to grow up a yirei shomayim?

I have been in Uman 3 or 4 times, but never on Rosh Hashana. My cousin went, though, when he was seeking a shidduch and got married that year.

my bil went a few times. My sister spent the chag by my mother each of those times, but I could tell she wished her husband was with her for yom tov.

and I think that for many people who go, it's not just a matter of going for two days, that it includes Shabbos too, right?

dh goes & women can go they don't really like it when women come there, there are so many men & on rosh hasanah women cannot get close to the tzion so whats the point, there are very few women who go I know someone who went once never again on rosh hasanah she said.

my friend's husband goes and her mil went once too. I'm not sure whether she was able to go to the tzion, but even if they can't get right next to it, I think they feel they are going for the general atmosphere, which is supposed to be electrifying. Just imagine so many Yidden coming together on such a holy day. (I guess it's like going to R' Shimon on lag bomer. many ppl don't get anywhere near the kever either, but they find the experience uplifting nevertheless.)

my dh goes and he will continue going till he's 120! Yup he's breslov and he says the spirituality that you experience in Uman is enough to last you a whole year!

My dh has been going since before we got married. he wenat also in shanareshona we were married 3 months then and he went once when ds no 1 was 3 weeks old, I sent him what did I do all these years, once went toinlaws first year, next they came to us but my mil started going tomeron with bils and fil the next year I went to beit hachlama ds was 3 weeks, the year after when ds was one I was sick with infectios so stayed home and ate the meals out, then the next year went to sister beforeshe went back to ny. the following year I was on shmira with the pregnancy so stayed home, ate out by day and home buy night with a friend, next 2 years were home after that then ds 2 was 2 1/2 went to brachfeld and last year went to london with him. ds 1 has ben going for the past 2 years and will go again this year.

I find the best solution forme is to be home eat at home by night and out by day. it's also 3 days this year and I see by ds2 that he's a very home child and needs his home so it's better for me. also he's difficult to travel with and had balagan when I went with him to kiryat sefer and to london.''

I also picky on where I go with him because I'm worried about him braking things or getting bored so I prefer to stay home.

I now send ds1 because I see he needs it, there really is nothing for him at home rh and he's a very independent child. in uman they have tons of cativitiesfor boys like chevras tehillim, avos ubanim chevra etc so even thou it's an expense it's still worth it, though dh has to put up with him. he'll be 8 soon and I send him tons of food he likes books and games. I told him I'll buy him a machzor for rh and yk this year so he can follow the davening.

Weather it'll be the same with ds2 I don't know.

btw I have heard of brissim taken place in uman on rh... or the father went and had a shaliach for the bris. (I think then the mother goes with.)

ps rav shick brings women but they have to be in the apartments they can't even get to the tziyon!! and all the flights are men only even the stewards are only men. and there is singing and dancing on the plane.

btw I actually like it it gives us a break and makes the heart grow fonder from afar that we look forward to each other back.

If I give birth before Rosh Hashana, and there would be no bris to keep my husband here over Rosh Hashana, he'll go this year (with my encouragement).

It was hard for me at first but now I'm used to it and I know how important it is to him and how much we really all gain from it.

hmm breslov, dh went when ds1 was 3 weeks and I told him to go. actually that was onething we agreed apon when we were dating was that he would go to uman evryyear invluding shana rishona... what did I care, it wasn't a good enough reason to break the shidduch and anyways I enjoy the peace in the home... he'll be gonefor a week this time so I suppose I'll be on imamother all night long.....

did anyone else's husband go during shana rishona??

For me it wouldnt be Shana Rishona. Our shana rishona rosh hashana was 9 days after our wedding, no way would DH be going then... This year, maybe.

I've heard of people doing even that?? hey what would yo udo if one year you had a bris on rh and he would say ok making the briss in uman... plenty have done that...
