Just to say that the juxtaposition of purple onion and strawberry apple crumble sounds disgusting.

Apple Strawberry Crumb Kugel

Crumbs:
3 c flour
1.25 c sugar
1 t vanilla
3/4 c oil
1 egg
1 t baking powder

3 apples, chunked
1 21oz can strawberry filing (also works with blueberry and other flavors)
cinnamon

mix the crumb ingredients. Push 1/3 of the crumbs into the bottom of a 9x13. Put apples over crumb "crust" and sprinkle with cinnamon. 1/3 of the crumbs on top of the apples. Filing. remaining crumbs. bake at 350 for an hour

(personally, I usually skip the middle layer of crumbs and do half on the bottom and half on top and I mix the apples and strawberry filing together.)

Thanks busydev and imamothertoo .
Do you have any idea if I can replace the strawberry pie filling with frozen or fresh strawberries ? What would be the equivalent ? Did any of you ever try it ?

crumbs are margarine, sugar, and flour, sprinkle over sliced apples and strawberries. I make any kind of crumble this way.

I once made that one and it did not go over well here.
Way too much cinnamon. I wouldn't put strawberries and cinnamon together again.

This is from BY cookbook. My kids prefer the pesachdig one from mishpacha magazine. I'll find that and post. As you can see from pic, I've made a few times.

From mishpacha magazine via kosherscoop.com

http://kosherscoop.com/2012/03.....ugel/

Fruit Mixture

7 apples, peeled and sliced - ½ cup sugar - 2 tsp lemon juice - ½ tsp cinnamon - 1 small box strawberries, cleaned and sliced (or use frozen) - Crumble2 ½ cups potato starch - ¾ cup sugar - 1 egg - 1 cup oil - 100 grams (3 ½ -4 oz) ground nuts - 1 vanilla sugar, opt. -

Instructions:

Combine apples, sugar, lemon juice and cinnamon. Put on bottom of a 9x13 pan or 2 9” round pans. Top with sliced strawberries. With a fork, mix together the crumb ingredients: potato starch, sugar, egg, oil and nuts. Crumble with your fingers and place on top of strawberries. Bake uncovered at 350F/180C for 1 – 1 ½ hours, or until done. It’s a good idea to put a piece of foil under the pan(s) to catch crumbs that might fall and make a mess. Note: You can prepare this kugel in advance and freeze. Let it defrost slightly at room temperature, and then warm in the oven at a low temperature. Once it's defrosted, turn the oven to a higher temperature until completely heated through.

Tip: In order to reduce the calories and fat, I tried using half oil and half applesauce. The results were satisfactory (it was all eaten!) but, honestly, the kugel did not have the same texture as with the all-oil version.

Do you use potato starch? Or a more common chometz ingredient?

My kids like it the pesach way but I have other crumb topping recipes that call for this amount in flour so it should work
