I would keep it in a bank that gives big interests to make it "grow".

I'm embarrassed to say how many times my husband and I have had this conversation...
really, we'd need to win more than a million - because after we paid off our debt, fixed up the house (not even anything fancy) and replaced our ancient car - and paid the taxes, don't forget that! - there wouldn't be much left. I'd want to put aside $ for my kids weddings, potential kollel, and start paying full tuition - and pay back all the scholarships we've gotten over the years.
then I'd get the new sheitel.

1) Put away enough money to pay for my children's tuition, plus money for college, in an interest bearing account.
2) Put away enough money for my children's weddings in an interest bearing account.
3) Use any leftover money to purchase, or make a downpayment, on a home.

Buy an apt, for 500 grand. (That gets me a 7 room Condo)
A new car, (always had practical secondhand cars till now.)
Help in laws with their debts.
And take a guilt-free vacation.
Hey, You never know........

you know, a milllion dollars doesnt go very far these days...
I would:
1) put aside $$ for a second story on my house when my family iyh grows, and for school tuition, weddings, etc.
2) get normal health insurance!
3)give maaser and lots more to a few good needy causes
4) invest in some low-risk, high-return stocks or mutual funds
5)landscape the front and back yards of my house
ummm...I guess that takes care of the million!

-put aside for my Rosh Chodesh group and other programs I organize ($5,000)
-take DH on a seforim shopping spree ($5,000)
-buy a 2nd sheitel ($1,700)
-buy a car...(VERY expensive in Israel...maybe $60,000 for a good car)
-buy plane tix to the States to visit family ($2,500)
-plan a nice but FRUGAL trip, (e.g. youth hostels instead of hotels, buy own food in supermarket, tour book walking tours, etc.) to Europe for a week with DH ($1,500)
-send both sets of parents on a nice trip ($5,000 each)
-give both sets of parents financial help ($10,000 each)
-put the rest in an interest-bearing account
DH have definately had this discussion before!

I would want to buy us a house.
Help out my parents and in-laws.
Put money away for weddings.
Maaser would go to tzedakah organizations.
And then there's taxes!
The total may or may not come out to more than 1million, depending on where I would want to buy our house. But considering that I won the lottery, I would want to live in NY. That takes care of most of the money (once tax and maaser have been subtracted). So give me 2 million
