Enjoy!! They're delicious!

Variation: instead of duck sauce, you can use tom sauce


two questions:
is that teaspoon or tablespoons of honey?
how many patties does this make?
it sounds sooooo yummy!

Going out for dinner so here's my menu for lunch:

-Homemade challah from the freezer
-pickles
-hummus
-schug
-baked gefilte fish (from spice and spirit)
-purple cabbage salad
-fresh green salad with almonds, dried cranberries, terra chip strips, avo, tom, peppers, cuc, and carrots with a sweet vidalia onion dressing
-honey glazed chicken (recipe from this site)
-individual deli rolls made from mallawach dough
-crusty garlic rosemary potatoes
-garlic green beans
-pumpkin apple kugel muffins (kosher palette)
-cranberry apple kugel

Dessert:
-Homemade vanilla pareve ice cream topped with a homemade strawberry sauce and almond crisps

Drinks: Just bottled water, grape juice and carbonated grape juice

Fri Night: Homemade challah (which is rising now), boiled loaf fish, corn salad, egg salad, Israeli salad a few more salads-not sure yet...chicken soup with kneidels, breaded chicken. cous cous with mixed veggies and cholent for shabbos day

I made it again today and got 20 patties.... they are soooo good, but I must give credit where credit is due. It's cookielady's recipe.

Shavuah Tov!

I'm fairly new on the board here and I've just discovered this thread - really interesting.

Does everyone make a starter course before soup for Friday night? I do it only when I'm having guests, which isn't very often, but then my DH complains that there is too much food and we don't need it.

This week I made -

Store-bought challah
Courgette & Onion Soup
Chicken Pieces in Barbecue Sauce
Chicken Steaks baked with Sauerkraut and Sauteed Onions
Rice
Broccoli, Cauliflower & Green Beans
Mixed Salad with Viniagrette Salad
Jelly (Jello) and Fruit Salad

Kiddush -
Vegetable Crudities with Bean Dip

Lunch -
Store-bought challah
Shnitzels
Rice
Hot Mushrooms
Bean Salad
Chocolate Ice Cream

Yes, most people want to have fish as well as meat. (Basar vedagim) Theproblem is when you have fish lots of people think you need to serve 2 or 3 salads, dips etc. It's really not necessary. You can just have a green salad and some fish and its fine. Or you can eliminate the soup course.

I have a lot of israeli guests and they seem to appreciate challa and dips (especially chummous) more than soup so for the last few weeks I have eliminated soup. After sukkos I felt I overdosed on chicken soup anyway.

Oh I understand - you do that for both meals. I usually make fleishik for Friday night and fish for Shabbat lunch. This week was a bit different for logistical reason. If I give DH fish on Friday night to start he usually doesn't want much else to eat and says it's a waste of money. He'd much prefer to have his soup and meat main course, especially in the summer months when Shabbat comes in late and it's too late for such a big meal.

It's a big Shabbos for us as it's the Kinnus HaShluchim and I have ppl staying over and others eating by us. And the ppl coming have hiddurim galore, and I want to accomodate them, along with DD not allowed to have any saturated fat.

Friday Night
Challah & rolls, bought; no chol pita bread for DD
Fish, green salad w/croutons, matbucha, colorful pasta salad
Soup – creamy veg with marrow bones and noodles
London Broil with steamed zuke and baked potatoes
Dessert: Poached fruit

Shabbos Day
Breakfast – fresh homemade cinnamon buns, tea

Challah like Friday night
Fish – baked striped loaf & jar if nec.
Salad, green
Matbucha
Colorful noodle salad with veg.
Cholent for Shabbos day – meat, potatoes, kishka, beans, farfel
Dessert: Poached fruit

We're going out for both dinner and lunch so I have it easy this week! I prob should be cooking anyway to stock my freezer but I thinkn I'm taking this week off Wink For third meal I'll prob just make egg salad with fried onions, purple cabbage salad and some sort of pasta salad, haven't decided yet.

Choc Moose: Do you mind sharing your cinnamon bun recipe? DH loves them, thanks!!

I'm leaving on a business trip tomorrow night so Shabbat will be spent with friends in London.

DH and kids are eating with friends in the community on Friday night. Still not sure what they're doing for lunch though.

Felchen (a sort of fish only available here which has no English translation)

Chicken Soup
Honey-Mustard Chicken with Poppy Seeds
Potato Kugel
Zucchini-Carrot Kugel
Marinated Mushrooms
Ice Cream

Shabbos:

Cholent (maybe a new recipe without beans)
Felchen
Egg Salad
Deli meat
Zucchini-Carrot Kugel
Salads from Fri. night

Last year by the Kinnus Hashluchim a guest asked me if it's a "NY thing" to have 3 salads. Surprised And I was thinking I should have made some more!

No one's called to say they're coming in so I'm making a regular Shabbos. Maybe we'll have some surprise guests.
