I have a child who was diagnosed with Crohns several years ago. I'm happy to answer any questions here.
Please take advice you receive here with a grain of salt. Therr are so many variations when it comes to IBD. Symptoms can range from mild to severe, and some people respond better to medications than others. People who had onset of symptoms as an adult will have a very different perspective than parents of children with Crohns. Firstly, there are many more safer options in terms of medications that are available today. And secondly, for a child and teen, it is crucial to consider growth and development.
The best advice I can give you is to find an excellent Dr who you trust. Medication is the recommended route to get the inflammation under control. There's a lot of information out there about diet and how that can play a role- and it can. But your goal is to first achieve remission through medication, because time is of essence here.
