thank you! |
I pieced together the recipes I found on here and on other websites (I had to search hard to find anything). I've made it twice and it has gone over very well but warning you that the recipe is not very precise. I think it is better with a little less flour or it is too doughy and also I don't use close to that amount of oil so if using less flour I use less water/soy milk. You can see how much flour is around the onions and go according to your taste.
5 large onions, sliced thin
2 eggs (or 3 if it looks like it needs more)
(you can add 1 teaspoon onion soup mix but I don't like using mixes)
1 cup flour
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
pepper
3/4 cup water or soy milk
1/2 cup oil, or less (I use a few tablespoons just enough to coat the onions so they can cook properly)
Caramelize onions in oil (cook them until they are very brown, u can add a drop of balsamic vinegar to them at the end of caramelizing to add more flavour), they should cook for a while, around 20 min. Mix everything together and bake 350°F for 1-1/2 hours until ready.
(BTW I tend to find recipes a bit stifling so I like to play with them so ask questions if this is incoherent)

Thanks so mcuh buzzinmom!! The women on imamother are so nice!
I created a new thread asking for the Lebanese recipe, and somebody posted it for me.
Thank you a ton for taking the time to type this up for me buzzin. I know that a lot of women in this specific Shabbos thread were waiting for the recipe.
And thanks to beautiful blessings for her post earlier on today!

Thanks buzzinmom. I made this tonight and we really enjoyed it.
If you or someone else has a chance, can you check up the tehina amount again? Is it 1/4 c or 1/2 cup?
(Two people posted the recipe for me, and I just realized that one says 1/4 c and one 1/2 c. Thanks.)
cookielady, do you still make the chick pea recipe according to the long drawn out preparations, or have you figured out an easier way to make this? Just curious, because we enjoyed it but the effert was a bit much an extra salad.

I'm making the Quick and Kosher one. |
Quick & Kosher Coca-Cola Chicken
1 (10 oz.) bag chopped onions, or 2 large onion sliced
1 chicken, about 3.5 lbs., cut into 8 pieces
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 cup coca-cola
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup apricot jam
1 Tbsp soy sauce
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly grease a 9x13-inch pan with non-stick cooking spray.
Place onions on prepared pan.
Rinse chicken and pat dry; arrange on top of onions.
Season chicken with garlic powder.
In a medium bowl, place coca-cola, ketchup, apricot jam, and soy sauce. Mix well.
Pour coca-cola mixture over chicken and bake, uncovered, at 375' for 1 hour and 15 minutes or 1 hours and 30 minutes. Serve warm.

I just noticed your post now, I'm not at home and won't be until tomorrow I'll try to post it before shabbos
So I made stuffed cabbage this week instead because I was in the mood for it. I don' t know what else I'm making...probably assorted salads and kugels and buffalo wings because DH has to have them every week. I bought a bag of shredded cabbage now I have to figure out what I'm doing with it. I am not the most organized this week

you are having the cholent friday night? is it cholent that has cooked for 24 hours, or just a few? if so its not cholent, its stew.
we are having:
home made challa
chummous
chatzilim dip
chicken
roast baby pots with pesto
mushroom turnover
yerushalmi kugel (bought)
green beans with mushrooms or nuts, see what I have in cupboard.
maybe a fresh salad
everything served in one course. my oneg shabbos will be greatly enhanced by not having all the extra plates lying around over shabbos.
rugelach/choc yeast cake
thought I had no guests by day, dh just informed me we have one. too late to make cholent.
cold cuts
eggs
leftovers from last night.
salad

Yes. I have made it simpler. I diced the purple onions and zucchini and quickly sauteed it until tender/crisp. Much faster but the same taste.
