I’m going to jump in here on this but not with respect to OPs question which was specific…I disagree with this, we always have a responsibility to present ourselves as a part of the Jewish people and with the ideals that comes with. So although we each have our own journeys, we do have to be cognizant of how we look and come across to other Jews and non Jews.

I have never met a secular person who didn't want to shake hands or expected me not to shake their hand.
Besides who cares if it's confusing? Everyone has a mouth to speak. They could ask, if they cared. And said person could answer and explain that they keep some things and some not. Secular people are very open minded and understanding about such things. More so than a lot of frum people. For them it's like someone saying they est vegetarian but also fish and someone else eats vegetarian and no fish. They accept it and move on.

I have a bigger problem when people do things bein Adam lchaveiro than being Adam lmakom. Like when I see a frum man in jail for stealing millions or billions but makes a stink about getting kosher food, that kind of thing confuses me more
