Ahh. Ok this makes more sense. I get it.
Is there an area that is not like that?

The twin ,Decatur is a very nice chassidish neighborhood. Not necessarily satmar. It's near a supermarket pizza shop and hosiery store. The main shopping is like half hour walk or take a car. There's many mikvah options for bucherim.

Huh?
The only thing true here is that it’s not walking distance to weekday women’s Mikva.

There's an apartment in one of those streets with a month free rent which cracks me up.
Other apartments are expensive and seem to be more to the high end side.
Is it a very upper class neighborhood? Even if I can afford the rent I can't afford to live between upper class people iykwim. |
Valleyside is less then 20 min walk to evergreen. It’s a great area for people that moved from the city. It’s definitely not considered a rich area.

Valleyside is not an upper class development. It's a rental development with 3 bedroom apartments.
You may not love the crowd there though. |
Can you tell me more? I can pm you if you think its lh.

Another idea is that you make a list of all big grocery stores. They are all near other stores. When you hear of an apartment for rent, check on Google how far the walk is to the nearest Grocery. If it's within a 20 minute walk then you are good. There are shuls all over these area so you don't need to worry.
You should properly budget for a weekly round trip taxi to other stores.
Big groceries that I could think of this minute are hatzlacha, Rockland kosher, evergreen, monsey glatt.
When you find the apartment that you like, you should go to the nearest grocery to see the route and check out the 2/3 nearest shul to confirm that you are comfortable in one of those shuls. It's also a benefit to go to the apartment when it's nice weather so that you could see the neighbors outside.

Thanks
I won't be home most days so I'm not so concerned with the transportation aspect as I can always make a stop when I'm out.
I would like to live in center though.
Last minute grocery erev shabbos (yes I'm very last minute type and it's over I'm not going to change) etc.
If you have older children you know that with older children they always always have a function in center of town regardless of which town it is and I want it to be walking distance.

It’s not like there is one center that is walking distance to a lot of stuff. You need to decide which shul you want near you. Also it’s not like there are apartments available on every block. You need to evaluate each listing separately.

Monsey is huge. There is no center. For example you might be close to satmar shul, but then you won't be close to the satmar cheder and school. Or you might be really close to evergreen, but then it'll be a pretty far walk to other things. You need to choose what is most important for you to be walking distance to, and then you can decide what area makes most sense for you.

Monsey has a lot of hills. So even if you're close to a stores , walking is often very difficult.
People in monsey use taxis a lot.
There are a lot of people that don't drive in monsey. A lot of them live around hatlzocha supermarket.
For a lot of people the fact that they live next to a grocery is good enough for them.
You learn to buy enough to last you through the week. Most people go to main st/rt 59 once a week/once a month.

Also main monsey is very different from the outskirts. Not that you can't find in monsey what you're looking for, but it's harder.
It really depends on every individual condo.

I think I need to take a step back on this.
I know Monsey mainly from work related visits and from visiting people mainly on the outskirts.
I feel like maybe I'm not understanding the culture and it's be a big mistake to do this without enough research.
Thanks for your help everyone.

It’s got a bad rep because 10+ or so years ago when it was new and very out of area only certain types of families lived there.
By now it’s very different, totally in the area with ridge and S. Cole built up and chasidish, with a variety of fine and simple chasidish families living there, but a bad name is hard to get rid of.
