Where would we fit in?
I'm chassidish shave smartphone satmar.

Not looking for overly congested areas but we don't have family there so we would want some people. We don't want just grass and trees iykwim.

Also has to be within walking distance to shopping areas and to a normal warm shul and mikvah because we don't have a car.

I know everyone moving buys a home but I am not interested in buying as this will only be for 3 years or so to be close to a specific thing.

I know about the school situation but my sons will all be in yeshivas by next year and my daughters will be out of school so this isn't the issue here.

Any direction?

One of you needs to drive, or else you'd be shelling out thousands in taxi.
The only area that's walking distance to shul/mikvah/shopping, is the very congested area around Maple Avenue/306/Main Street.

Can you tell me which streets specifically because I'm clueless.
Worst case we do go to a more congested place.
(The driving isn't changing for now.)

Thanks!

So it depends what you mean by close and it depends what you mean by shopping…

Close means how many minutes to walk?
Do you mind hills?

Shipping means groceries? Hosiery? Restaurants? Clothing?

Shul - must be Satmar?

It sounds like you’re moving to Monsey for location, not lifestyle, is that correct?

If I mind hills I don't know. Lol. I think I do but I'll do what it takes.

Has to be close to everything you asked. 10-15 minutes I'd still consider walking distance.

Shul doesn't have to be satmar but has to be very functional not a kiddish the entire leining and welcoming but not creepy iykwim.

Many Satmar Williamsburg people live next to Hatzlacha grocery/Mystique and DG Express (hosiery stores).

Twin, Elm, N Cole, Herrick, parts of Maple… check Google maps for all the little streets…

I am by far NOT satmar Williamsburg and that's exactly what I'm trying to avoid.

(Please no offense to anyone. I really am just not that Wall of China bugaboo ironed underwear type of person.)

I need people but I need oxygen.

I saw an ad about a house on Blauvelt. Is that a good area?

Thank you so much for your help and please don't mind if I come back with another 20 klutz kashes!

Thanks I really appreciate it because there are a few apartments on Elm and that area.

It makes me chuckle that next to many apartments it says first month free rent. That's a first for me! I never heard of this concept before.

Thats how desperate they are to rent out?

Depends where on Blauvelt. It can either be fairly close or far & a humongous hill.

Oh really?! It wouldn't dawn on me!
No I can't walk a humongous hill every time we have to go somewhere.

Is there a shul on top of the hill?

Once I have 2 or 3 apartments that seem interesting I'll come and look but I so appreciate every detail before I make this trip. Thanks

Blauvelt is a main road that’s very narrow.

From your OP I understood you don’t have little kids so busy road shouldn’t bother you in terms of kids running to road.

Some areas of Blauvelt are more open to smart phones than others - it’s house by house in very large streets in Monsey, every 1-3 houses is a community for itself, so you would have to do research on the specific house…

In terms of getting to shopping, there is a bus that passes there every half hour that goes to Main Street for $2 per person, and from the lower numbers you can definitely walk (numbers go by 10 there… meaning 2, 12, 22, etc…)

There are several shuls in the area

There are also shortcuts to 306 which is way flatter than Blauvelt. Find out how close/far there is a shortcut to 306 and if it’s open…

First of all even if I don't have a child that will run on the road if it's a very narrow busy road and on top of that it's steep and a child is on a scooter then Hashem Yishmor.

I don't know a thing about the shortcuts but that would be so helpful.

The concept that every few houses is a community for itself is dizzying to me.

I don't think I'll ever know where to move. Sad

Actually a few of the apartments say no smartphone.
I guess those are the ones I will stay away from.

But how would I know if it is a snobby neighborhood etc? Erlich people? Etc etc

It's a very frum/viznitz area. Even if the apartment doesn't say no smartphone, the neighbors may not appreciate you sitting outside on your phone, especially if there are lot's of children around.

The one on Blauvelt doesn't say no smartphone but I wonder who would even know if I have a smartphone or not?

In any case.
Is there an area that is close to shopping main area and has very chassidish people not very frum/viznitz?
