We are going away for Shabbos (entire family) and need to prepare the food at home and then bring it along. The only heating element we have is a plata. Can someone help me make a menu of foods that a. travel well b. can be heated properly on a plata c. what do I do about a chulent?

you can freeze soup so it doesnt spill on the way and then that warms very nicely. chulent I've done where I brought soaked beans, meat, and a portion container with oil and spices- I did bring a regular pot, and poured it all in then on the plata-was just fine.

You can make cholent in advance, put it in a 9x13 and get a deeper 9x13 that you will fill with water before Shabbos. Put the cholent pan into the deeper one on the hot plate. We do this every week for our shul. Also works with potato kugel

You can bring a crockpot for the chulent then warm up the kugels and schnitzel challah on top of the chulent

have used all on platta and fine. just leave plenty of time for heating.
everyone will live without cholent for one wk I'm sure.

I only use a Plata each week for Shabbos and do regular menu.
When we go to my parents I don't put in as much water in the cholent when making it and then add it in when we arrive, bring to a boil before putting it on the Plata.
Depending on the heat of the platas some are strong enough to warm the chicken soup to boiling, ideally bring it to a boil before had. Bring it in containers cling filmed and pour in pot when there
