Wow so nice of you!

Can you help me find family fun things to do near LA (within about an hour drive)?
Kids from baby to 12 years old, mostly boys.
Budget under $100 and free would be great too.

Shemiras einayim is going to be important, so no beaches etc. Thank you!!

live in Lakewood. Kids age 3-15. Looking for something to do winter vacation for a Thursday night- sunday night. Would rather have minyan. was wondering about Boston? or lancaster? or something in the Poconos but not snowtubing because we did that a few times already... Budget 1000 or less even better.

Thank you so much!

Loving this. I've planned lots of road trips mostly on the east coast and I'm enjoying just reading your posts.

Any can't miss spots in Puerto Rico? Other than the rain forest? Thinking about taking a trip there.

Have you done Panama or Cancun? any must sees in either of those, that are safe? (on my bucket list too).

looking for budget friendly in general. We generally use points.

Also, any one day activities near scranton/hershey areas? for the winter. kids ages low to high teens.

FYI even driving in the frum neighborhoods is going to be a shmiras einayim issue in LA unfortunately. Certain streets and neighborhoods are worse than others.

So true. I live here so that part is unavoidable. I mean no beaches, aquariums or things like that

What would it look like if I want to get Ohio in after wv but before Kentucky?

And for the way back home?
Should we do Tennessee, Virginia and s Carolina?

I thought you where flying back

If you are driving back I would do the harpers ferry straight to WV and then into Ohio - Colombus, and Cincinatti

Louisville
Gatlinburg
Nashville
Knoxville
Normally I would say Ashville, but they got destroyed by the hurricane, don't know what its like now
Charlotte (NC)
Durham (NC)
Richmond VA
Williamsburg
DC
Baltimore

The main attraction of SC to me is the coastal area, but it feels funny to go there without beaches to me, almost like going to Florida and not doing beaches....

But if you want to do that
After charlotte head towards
Charlestown SC
Myrtle Beach SC
Wilmington NC
Virginia Beach/ Norfolk VA
Williamsburg
Richmond
DC
Baltimore

Boston is great but not cheap
Lancaster the main attractions are really outdoorsy
What about the Harrisburg stuff I posted upthread?
Or Baltimore/DC?

That budget is kinda tight for Puerto Rico, unless the dates are for the end of Jan. The exact dates make a huge difference. Also - do you have any promotion cc cards - like Hilton rewards?

Jan 27-30

No promo cc,s or points.

Actually Harrisburg/lancaster sounds like a great idea! I’m going to look into it. If you have extra time later and wouldn’t mind looking up a hotel for us that would be really appreciated 😁

Hi, Just thought I'd chime in. Aside from the really good suggestions OP posted which are more in the Hershey area, if you venture a little further into Harrisburg, there is a great science museum called the Whitaker center. If you can, call ahead to see if there is a school group coming so you can come when they are gone! We went around 3:00 and had the place to ourselves and really enjoyed it. They also have some nice IMAX things to watch.

Not sure if its open in the winter, but City Island has outdoor mini golf and minor league games.

Also if you're OK with more driving, about an hour or so from Harrisburg is this really cool cavern that you tour in a boat. Can't remember the name but I'm pretty sure its open all year. Its similar to Indian Echo Caverns just has a boat to go in instead of walking.

This is more in the Lancaster area, not sure if you eat Chalav Stam, but the Turkey Hill Experience is kosher. If you don't eat the dairy, they have kosher iced tea that you can sample. Its a cute fun place for kids till around age 10 maybe 12. My kids favorite part was making their own commercial. There are also a lot of train/railroad museums in the area which you can do in the winter.

The AACA museum is a bunch of old fashioned cars, really cool to see so many and Indian Echo Caverns are both in Hershey. You can also go to Hershey park, they have the free (5 min) tour where they show u about chocolate and u can ask for a twizzler at the end if you don't eat chalav stam. There are also these touristy shows that you can do which are pricey but cute. These are indoors and I think they're open all year even if the amusement park is closed.

The Sheraton Harrisburg/Hershey is in Harrisburg and has an indoor pool. Just make sure its open and functioning!

Maybe Wilmington DE? There is a chabad there for minyan although no kosher food that I know of. We went over Chol hamoed and there was a minyan.

Longwood Gardens is in that area and I think its open all year, they have some indoor spaces and on a nice day I can imagine its still beautiful (we went in spring for the tulips). They also have old mansions to tour, but we didn't do those. There is also the Delaware Childrens Museum but I haven't been to it to vouch for it.

There is a helicopter museum in the area that is small but well done, and my kids liked it alot. We were able to see planes landing which was cool. Also the Herrs Potato Chip factor is an indoor tour and you get hot potato chips at the end which is fun.

Also about 45 min away is Thrillz in King of Prussia PA which is a big indoor playground type of thing. They also have a big mall there if your crew likes shopping.
