Four year old with diagnoses eats very very messy. Dc rubs the food on their face, stuffs their face with both hands, doesn’t use utensils etc.
Dc will be starting at a special Ed preschool next month—can I expect them to work on this with dc? Do I need to get someone outside of school to work with them?

Yeah they will likely work on it. Also if he has an ot they should be working on it too.

Child already gets OT, we’re working on many other skills and not eating so far. I hope they’ll work on it.

I don’t think dc has the awareness to realize it’s not appropriate behavior.
I just can’t handle watching my child eat, it triggers me very badly. Like dc seems to be so hungry that they need to eat the way they do. Does something to me, makes me want to cry.

Don’t see it that way. It’s more of a sensory thing. When you meet with the staff you can bring up a list of things you want them to work on you can tell them about the eating.

Thanks for this. I feel so bad/guilty/sad about this it’s awful.

Sending you a virtual hug 🫂
Special needs mama's are Rockstars. Hashem should send you extra kochos for you to be able to deal with your child and extra capabilities for you to be less harsh on yourself and see all the good you've done and are doing. ❤️

I totally relate! My daughter still does this at almost 11! Difference is she didn't go to special Ed schools where they really can help with this. Over the years I've worked on myself to tolerate it more and not look at her while she eats but it's SO HARD. I feel you. Hugs!
