My kids don’t like when neighbors babysit but I hate asking for favors… it just feels weird not to pay her and she said I don’t have to… WWYD?

I’d pay her or buy her a gift as a thank you

I don’t, but I give them a gift on Chanukah or other occasions.

Talk to her mother.
Either way, get her something special for chanukah.

If it becomes a regular thing, occasionally give her cash, a gift card or a nice gift.

I have a few, some prefer to get paid and some prefer nice gifts every so often. Ask her mother what she thinks

In our family it's done as a favor. When they're available. And we buy gift.

I've done it, a few times. I've got a few kids and some of them have a harder time with babysitters than the others.
So I feel comfortable asking, that I'm not taking advantage of her.
And I don't pressure her at all in case it's not a good time for her.

But I have a neighbor who wanted to pay my (younger) daughter for helping her out with her kids every so often. We came to a mutual agreement that she wouldn't pay, but she can get her a gift for chanukah or some other time if she wants to give her something.

Every family does what makes sense for them.

I pay them. I tell them I prefer to pay them and call them whenever I need a babysitter than not paying them and calling them as a favor

I pay.
I tell them they are doing a chessed enabling me to go out. And me paying them doesn’t take away from that.

A high school girl?? Of course you pay. I wouldn’t even discuss it with her mother.
I pay my siblings to babysit. I feel less guilty about staying out late if I need to

Exactly.
My daughter now babysits for her aunts and usually gets paid.
Possibly at a lower rate though

Love this.
It's also a chessed for them to be available as someone we know and trust, if they come willingly and happily...
But if they would get paid for the same thing at a neighbor, they should get paid from me.

Why not pay? if you really can't afford then discuss it with them they may be ok. But don't just assume.
