Curious as spinoof to the men comfort thread....regarding shapewear and heels. Do most women who wear them because were expected to? Like because of beauty standards?
Or because you like how you look / feel in it?

I already never wear them. I'm not destroying my feet just because other women are okay destroying theirs. I only get one pair and I want them to carry me until 120!

For the picture at close family Smachos and of course I wore them as a kallah and don't regret it, it's special. Wore low/mid heels during engagement

If I happened to find a pair that was as comfy as no heels, yes sure. I had one such pair, Clark's, and another, Versace (iirc?). Versace was even stiletto (kitten). But others HURT.

I’m short and heels make me look way better but I HATE wearing them, my feet kill! I would never wear them if that was a socially acceptable option. I only wear them to weddings, and I’m in agony the whole time.

I love a good kitten heel. I think they're nice compromise.

I love heels, wore them for years but after having kids, they hurt my feet too much.
I wish I could wear heels these days

I grew up in a community where everyone wears heels when dressed. Moved to a community where no one wears heels. Still wear heels sometimes. But much less than I used to.

I stopped wearing heels during pregnancy and never went back! Flats for life! Heels are so incredibly uncomfortable. Now I don't even own heels because I have a bad hip and need shoes that can support me as I can get wobbly even in flats.

I hate having to comply with today’s beauty standards. (I know I don’t have to but I also don’t have the guts to be the weird odd one out.) high heels, shapewear, shaitel, makeup, tights… are SO uncomfortable for me. I’m a little sensory and also overweight and getting dressed up for a simcha or event is torture for me. I wish I could stay comfortable in loungewear all day every day.
In the other thread where people were saying we don’t get xyz (whatever the men get) but we do get to dress up in makeup and shaitels and fancy dresses… thanks but I really don’t need that.

I don't wear heels often. Only to close simchas. I don't think I would wear any less than I currently do. I think it looks nice.

Yeah I was thinking the same. Everything feels so itchy and tight.

If my back and feet were in better shape after pregnancy, I'd wear them to schul again. I think some are really pretty.

I don't wear heels and never have. Too uncomfortable and so unhealthy for the feet. My husband is the same height or maybe 1-2 inches taller than me so I have an excuse to tell people for whom the other reasons aren't enough.
