I have wanted to make aliyah for 20 + years. A major part of my outlook has been working towards making aliyah.
Now, I am feeling differently and I am trying to reconcile this feeling.
Major change came when I realized how much political division there is and how it creates division among groups. And how and who runs the government.
I have this ideal in my mind of Israel from vacations and from this fantasy land in my own head. Maybe its better to stay there rather than be shattered.
I dont know. I am a little depressed that I feel this way now. I want to want to make aliyah but my outlook has changed.
Any similar feelings?

Our love for EY has nothing to do with the current government or the people in it.
If terrorism don't make you stop loving and wanting to move to EY, how can political differences give you pause?

I've never been one to push for others to make Aliyah and yes, there are some less than ideal aspects of our society. The fact of the matter is though, that there is absolutely nothing on earth that compares to Shabbat and chagim here, the breathtaking scenery all over the country, the palpable connection to our history that you literally feel on every foot of this land. That is the magic and fantasy of this place and that has nothing to do with government, politics or social tensions.
(It is important though to find a place to live with like-minded people.)

It sounds like you're already shattered.
Now come to Israel, let go of the fairy tales, and get absorbed in the nitty-gritty of life here.
In order to live the dream, we have to let go of the perfection of the dream, and accept that life here is at least as problematic as life anywhere else. But being here, you can contribute to the way the country grows and develops and help to influence growth in the way we want this country to go. Not by entering politics, but by living the best Jewish life you can, here in our own country. Gather up the pieces of your shattered dreams, and turn them into real life.

As much as I agree or disagree with any jew I meet here, there is and underlying love and care that crosses all lines. We are Jewish brothers and sisters.
Remember, living in Israel is real life. We have garbage trucks, we have taxes, we have annoying lines at government offices, we have PTA, our cars break down, and so on.
Do politics where you live ruin your everyday life?
You probably do what you need to do and go vote when it comes up.
We do the same.

There is way more that unites us here in Israel, than divides us.
Don't believe all the hype.
Come for a year and see.

I am super pro - aliya, did it myself
BUT
I would not be surprised if within then next 20-30 years we have a real civil war.
The divide between the secular, elite, leftist part of the country and the religious or traditional and often sephardic, and right wing part of the country is gaping. Then there are the charedim and the druze and the arabs.
As the demographics push the people in power (the matkal level of the army, the pkidim in the otzar, the top tier of the legal system) out and make changes I believe that there will be more and more intense backlash.
This is what we will have to deal with until mashiach comes. But I would never stay away because of it, being part of this is part of the yissurim of eretz yisrael.

Let's just put it this way - nobody makes Aliyah because they love the government!
Just as nobody marries a man because of his pimples or sweaty feet. And no one loves their kids because of their runny noses.
There are things that a part of the package deal, that one has to put up with.
But true love sees the true value of the person or thing underneath.
Eretz Yisrael is kadosh, special and the forever home of Am Yisrael.
Edited to add, yes, I made Aliyah and have been living in Israel for more than 15 years.

To me this is more troubling than the government.
You must realize that actually living here is nothing like being here on vacation. No fantasies, just real every day life. But in Israel. Gosh my child went on a school trip to maarat hamachpela and the kotel. That is uniquely israel. There is something special in the mundane here.

Does political situation elsewhere in the world seem ideal to you? I don’t know one country with a sizable Jewish population where people are not upset or scared about the political situation
