I’m new to sourdough, but have been making it consistently for a couple months now. I finally decide to buy a scoring tool. I kind of remember a frum Instagramer saying you don’t need to Toivel the blade, does this sound familiar to anyone? I obviously can ask a rav, but I’m curious why that would even be the case.

The OU says that anything that has limited use (1-2 uses) doesn’t have to be toiveled. My rav said I can use the blade 3-4 times before throwing it out.

I was actually reading through halachos of Tevila online and saw both the star k and OK said the same thing: if a utensil is always used only with raw/inedible items then it doesn’t require tevila. I never heard that before! I’m assuming that this is what the instagramer was referring to.

Interesting, we weren't sure so toiveled ours. along with other stuff...but good to know for next time

My LOR said I don't need to toivel a food thermometer and it touches stuff that IS edible. Always best to check with your own LOR.

My rav said to toivel it. I literally sat there unwrapping and toveling each blade

I asked my rav and he said to Toivel anyways. Oh well! Interesting either way.

I use each blade per batch. Was told that was ok.
I pay about 7 cents a blade so I don’t mind disposing it. And I find using a fresh one gives me better cures.

I remember my dad saying that if you have a needle for sewing a bird closed. You don't have to toeville it... I don't remember the reason but I would assume a blade for scoring is the same thing like a needle for sewing
