Traveling to Gateshead UK after Succos for a Simcha. We have somewhere to stay, but wonder if UK Imas can help me with:

-restaurants or takeaways
-hair updos for girls ages 4 to 12
-places to visit, indoors and outdoors for those ages
-kosher supermarkets. I'd like to be as independent as possible, the baal simcha is happy to help but I don't want to ask too much

TIA!

Hi welcome in advance.
There are no restaurants. But there are 2 takeaways/deli. One milky (open all day till 9pm) and one meaty (open eve 6-9pm and later on a thurs). [Though the meaty one uses the kitchen premises of the chasene hall so are not open on evening of chasenes].
There is also a pizza shop open 4.00-8.30pm based in someones house and a deli thurs nights for cholent, kigel etc.
There are 2/3 kosher shops selling bread/baked goods and groceries. Wouldnt call them supermarkets but they have everything you need. One of them also sells fruit and veg.
There is also a fruit and veg shop, paperware shop and a butcher shop.
All the above shops are within walking distance of the kehilla/streets where the yidden are based.
There are supermarkets quite local, mainly tesco that sell anything else you may need eg, soaps, cereals etc.
For your girls hairdo 's is prob best to ask the baal simcha for some names as they will prob have looked into it for themselves. If you want names I can find out for you.
Places to go- lovely parks nearby. There is a main park here, Saltwell park, within walking distance to the kehilla. If you will have a car there are further parks.
Indoors would include soft plays, trampolining etc. Again, depends if you have a car, what would work for you.
Feel free to ask anything else you may need and I am sure your host would also be able to help you find everything.

You forgot to mention that if you travel there after succos, make sure to bring plenty of warm clothing. Don't bother with any in-between stuff; it's already winter proper by then LOL

It is not always proper winter so early, though this year is much later so will be end of October already.
Is worth finding out before you come what the weather has been like and take it from there. And also depends where you are coming from...

Wow thank you! Such a helpful post. Is everyone so nice and friendly there like I heard? Have visited Gateshead, but was years ago when my sister was in the Seminary there, but didn't get to know the people.

Awww thanks! I hope to think we are all friendly. We are a relatively small Kehilla, around 650 families living within walking distance. And I am sure if you are stuck at all when out and about shopping etc, you can ask anyone for help (unless they are also visiting).
Hatzlocho and mazal tov and if you have anything else to ask, will be happy to be of help

I heard about a town centre called Metro, a shopping centre I think. Is that with Jewish shops, and is it nearby? TIA!

It's pretty close by bus. It's a non-Jewish mall. Nothing too huge, but they have the regular stores there. You can get your nails done there

FYI metrocentre is supposed to be one of the largest malls in the north. It has all the big chain stores and more. If you want a shopping trip it's a good place to go. Gateshead town centre isn't very big and doesn't have many stores aside from a large tesco (supermarket).
Newcastle which is a 1/2 bus ride also has a lot of stores if you want a shopping trip there.
The only jewish stores are only the ones in the jewish area and are all clustered together on one street.

Hi!
I'm looking for someone to do alterations, preferably before Shabbos, but after also helpful, can anyone recommend one?

And thanks all of you for the advice on this thread, it's been so helpful! You live in a wonderful town! The families are so warm and caring, and so friendly! Before I came I was told it's shtetl with 'nothing to buy', but it's not like that at all! People seem very happy here, coming from where I do I can see why they think there's 'nothing' here, but tbh there's plenty, everyone has what they need! My kids love that all shops are within walking distance, and people are so friendly and so willing to help.

It is indeed a wonderful place! There is a place on Coatsworth Road called Express Stitch. Just a little past Bewick Road, before the little Tesco.
Tell the guy its urgent and he should be able to help you. Not the cheapest but quality work.
