I think it’s my minhag because most of the women in my community go? My mom does too. But I never went. Guess I’m a bum

My mom and sibs go but I never liked the idea so I never started going, so it became my minhag not to go. It's not mandatory. I go to the mikve when mandatory.

I don't go. Have no clue what my minhag is. My mother never mentioned anything about it to me. I have no clue if she goes. When we got married dh said I should go but I said I never heard of it and I really really didn't want. I can't imagine myself doing it.
What is the source?

We don't have minhagim for many things since both grandmothers lost their parents in the holocaust as young girls. Whatever they took on was from different people who educated them after the war.
I think my maternal grandmother and mother went erev YK when they could but didn't take it on as a minhag so I don't have to.
I was also told I don't need to wear white pajamas during the 7 clean days even though my mother does since it wasn't a 3 generation minhag. Same goes about not doing laundry or sewing on rosh chodesh

The one I went to, they crammed 10 women in to one prep room to change. You got a white sheet & shower cap to cover yourself with & went to the hallway to stand in a crammed line with 100 women waiting to toivel. They rushed you like crazy, it was hard to find your clothing afterwards, and basically just chaos. Literally a chicken market.

My mother actually broke off this minhag. She went once when she was newly married and was disgusted. The mikvah wall full of hair. It was so busy that they couldn't keep up with cleanliness. This is a big (one of satmar's) mikvah which is normally spotless. So hard no for me.

Yes our minhig.
No I don't go.
I go to mikva every month. Baring pregnancy. Most yrs I was going already with in a few days before Yom kipper. Many my age seem to be nursing clean and pregnant for most of child bearing yrs and discuss going erev Yom kipper as such a special momentous event. When constantly in a cycle of dipping I'm not going extra . Probably the crowd and chicken factory stories scare me off.
My mom says after r menopause she bets ill start going .
I'll reopen this thread then to let you all know...

How about an option for just No so I can vote.
It's just not something done.

I go. As do my mom and sisters. It is our minhag.
It is very special.
You only live once ya know….. and whatever spirituality I can taste on this earth I do choose.

I voted yes, but I have a few family members with private mikvahs so never had to go to shul. I don’t think I would’ve gone if I would need to go to shul.

Why is it ok to cramps ladies into 1 room for this and not when someone goes when Niddah?
And if you go when Nidda but during 7 counting days are you tahor now?
Am I missing the point of this?

That's the second option.
It's not done in my circles either. I believe it's a chassidish minhag.

yes you are missing the point.
It is for added kedusha and tahara.
Much more like men going daily or weekly or before shabbos/YT.
It is completely unrelated to Niddah.
There is no chafifah. One can go during niddah. If during shiva nikiyiim, there are differing opinions.
