So funny I always have the same question.
Whats if your in a rush to light and your match gets extinguished. Is it preferable to strike another match or to just relight it from a lit candle?

If this is on Yom Tov, like this past Rush Hashanah when you were lighting Thursday evening for the second day, or Friday evening when you lit for Shabbos, definitely don’t strike a match. Striking a match, creating a new flame, is not allowed on Yom Tov. That’s your worst choice.

How are all of you putting out the extra match on Y”T that you lit? Or extinguishing a lighter on Y”T?

Put it in a small aluminum pan or silver paper. It extinguishes itself within a couple of minutes.

I prepare a foil pan to put it in, or in the case of a lighter, a tall glass that I stand it up in with the flame sticking out. If you’re putting it on a foil pan, put it down carefully so you don’t extinguish the flame as you put it down. Putting out a flame is just as much a melacha as lighting one.

I learned that you cannot light from on of your Shabbos candles even to light another, that you need to light a new match.

I had also heard that, so I asked a Rav about it, and he told me what I've posted above.

On YT, I don't use a match or lighter.
I use a candle to transfer the flame from my gas stove or 2-3 day candle, and then use the lit candle to light the others.

Lay it on the metal tray or in the sink. It kind of just distinguishes itself within a few seconds.

Yes

Even on shabbos, if my match (or the candle I use for lighting) goes out, I don’t use the candles I will be making a Bracha on, I will strike a new match.

If you put it in the sink, make sure the sink is dry and don’t turn on the faucet while it’s burning. You can’t do anything that will cause the flame to go out.

I have a small foil pan for my matches, and transfer fire from a a yahrzeit candle kept right next to my candles
