I agree. Just going back to normal isn't "Ami" enough.

She goes to the country and because she felt left out she retreats to her room. You're in the country! Go outside. Take your kids for a hike. Lie in the sun. Why are you obsessing over some random women and whether they include you or not?
And the kicker is the husband shows up after a whole week apart and instead of doing things together he's off hanging out with the other men who were strangers to him a week ago. What's wrong with spending time as a family? |
Because we are social beings , its in our DNA, the reason we do bungalow to begin with.
Because the kids want to be with their friends more than with their parents.
Because men bond quicker than women, possibly because of the need to be a minyan. They daven once together and are fast friends. They dont gossip about others, or judge you by your wearing last years styles etc.

There really is only one style for men!
"His hat brim is sooo 2023, can't imagine how he can go outside in that."

Glad she left the bungalow colony!
Of course some drama will happen between now and succos when the story will suddenly come to an end.
Made no sense to continue the drama in the bungalow colony when everyone in real life returned home.

I'm sorry most women I know don't gossip like this and don't judge you for wearing last year's style.
I'm so irked by the misogyny.

Probably because it’s too hard for her to accept as fact.

She makes a little welcome back party with her city friends. She eyes a new neighbor and thinks of her. She deletes the colony chat from her phone

Yup, just as I suspected. We're taking the "well my situation is different because she can just come up and say hi if she wanted to" route.

Ohhh… it ended! I’m saving it for shabbos. Too bad. I knew a bungalow story couldn’t really continue past rosh hashana but it was definitely entertaining.
I hate when the stories I follow end.

It was the first page I turned to, disappointed it ended
I'm not sure the message
Sarala was more obnoxious and had no interest in including miriam,
whilst miriam although her actions ended up being the same -it wasn't her intention

The point was that they weren't planning on being obnoxious either, it just seemed that way to Miriam. Miriam seemed obnoxious to the new neighbor too, if you'd ask her. I'm sure she could provide hundreds of little examples, just like Miriam did in the bungalow colony.
The issue is - and I'm not calling out this author in particular - that many magazine writers try being to cute by half and thing that the more opaque and obscure you make a story/ ending, the better of a writer you are.

Yep, nothing against this author, but her characters are very two dimensional, not only in this particular serial. Also, I feel she should have fleshed out the new neighbor angle a bit more to make us understand how Miriam's behavior was similar to the ladies in the bungalow colony. As is the rule with good storytelling, show, don't tell...

Yeah I agree, I really find those types of endings bland, especially when you’ve written twenty chapters or more of detailed enough content. I found that the serial ‘for granted’ had also ended that way. It just ended with a bang, but we didn’t find out whether Ayala’s parents ended making Aliyah, not enough context of the relationship between Dini and Ayala, what happened to Bracha’s husband in the end, did he heal? Etc

Wait, It ended?
And we're going to see this with all the upcoming sukkos story supplements. They're going to be over-the-top, bare bones (hardly any plot), and seem as if the authors are sending in a draft story for a serial.

I'm curious what part she played in her own social rejection ...
I had very similar story couple of summers back and was so shaken from it, I landed in therapy that year. I still ask myself what happened and what I did wrong.
I do know that going w o company only added to the being left alone....but it wasn't the actual reason. Now in the month of forgiveness this brought up some of the pain and confusion again
