My Dh is Paul. I always thought that was very non-Jewish. (He has a very Jewish Hebrew name.)
. Every Pinchas I ever met in my youth was either a Paul or a Philip. Certain Yekkes make a point of giving very unJewish-sounding secular names, even if those names are used only on legal documents and bank accounts.

What's a nonJewish HEBREW name? Yeshu Hanotzri, maybe? But he was a Jew even if he did spark a disastrous spinoff religion.

In my family tree going back 6 generations in the Latvia/Lithuania area of Europe I have an ancestor "Elkana" I don't know much about him other than that name. I don't know if he had a "Common name", whereas I asked on a geneology website and was told it "wasn't so uncommon"--Most names I hear from that era are more of the classic/yiddish variety--Beryl, Velvel, Leib, Avremel etc.
