I am getting a lot of mixed reviews as to which Parsha would be best to teach first time Chumash learners. My students are getting their first Chumashim I"YH the first-second week of January but I this is my first year with such young students (I've taught middle school up until now). Looking for some advice and possibly leads on where to find lessons or a good workbook for them to use.
THANK YOU!!

Some schools start with Bereishis and some with Lech Lecha.
I found that the first few Perakim of Parshas Bereishis (6 days of creation, and the foundation to our Yiddishkeit) is so important for kids to learn inside.
My daughters school does the first 3 perakim of bereishis inside and in detail. They then zoom through the rest of bereishis and Noach. From Lech Lecha they start as regular Chumash classes.

From a superficial perspective, it's definitely easier to start from Lech Lecha. The words are easier to explain and the skills are easier to teach and the storyline is more interesting.
Traditionally what we always started from Bereishis. That comes from an understanding that learning Chumash is not just about teaching a subject or skills but about planting Emunah deep into our children's souls.
But you have to know your school. You have to know the children you're teaching. Think about which one will really help the most.
I have a lot more to say on this. You know who I am and you can email me.

traditionally most girls school do what was described above- the first perek of beraishis and then move on. when I was in elementary school we did the first perek of beraishis in first grade. We got our Chumash shavuous time so there wasn’t much time. then in second grade we went through noach rather quickly and then more in depth with lech lecha. My question is really why this is all up to the teacher- presumably your administrator would have an approach she wants you to follow.

Torah for Children has a great Chumash curriculum.
They have the Childrens Chumash series from Parshas Bereishis through Parshas Vayeitzei. It is a textbook- workbook hybrid covering lots of textual skills and full of visuals for the story. Gets the children to really learn and makes the learning more fun as well.
They have flash cards and assessments on some Parshiyos.

Thank you for all the replies! The school is relatively new and they don't have a standard curriculum in place at this point so Im trying to do my best with what I have available to me.
