I've tried many recipes over the years with whole wheat flour, oats, honey etc. The "crumb" always comes out dry. Has anyone successfully made and apple crumble without using regular sugar?
Thanks!

I have a crumb recipe that uses maple syrup and I don't find it dry.

So I did maple syrup, and it was less dry than honey, but still dry. Would you mind posting your recipe?
Or maybe it was the combination of maple syrup and whole wheat flour?

For the applesauce - you just used jarred applesauce for the same amount of sugar?

Thanks!

I don't think it's the sweetner that dictates the wetness level, it's more about the ratio of dry to wet, and also what kinds of flours and oils you use.

My recipe fwiw , though I sometimes switch up the flours and nuts

1/4 c almond flour
1/4 oats
1/4 c chopped walnuts
2T potato starch
2T coconut flour
1 tsp cinnamon
2T maple syrup
3T avocado oil

It's still sugar but it has a lower glycemic index.
