k, I know the recipe calls for cooked chicken. do u think I can use my leftover grilled chicken cutlets from tonite's bbq? you think it will taste good?

Yup! I make these every Erev Shabbos (pretty much)

My favorite recipe, or the one I use the most, is for Quick and Easy Bagels
I also like the recipe for epamanadas, but I don't put beef in them, but other stuff..

yes, thats what I always do with my leftover shabbos chicken - make chicken pot pie! (though I use a slightly different recipe) Grilled chicken cutlets should work just as well. Also, once or twice I have made the same recipe wiuth mashed potaote as a topping.

I don't want to tell you what time I wake up on Friday am to make the buns. Wink but it's before work.
Basically my menu for the week are like 3 nights of boring/easy dishes...like stove top tuna casserole (just mixing tuna a veg and noodles) or some easy rice dish with a soup, and 2 nights are more involved dishes...like epamanadas or lasagna etc...

I make bagels and tortillas on Sunday when I work just half a day...
I try to make the more challenging dishes ahead of time...(Sunday night)..

That's it basically. Wink If I do it ahead of time, I can do something interesting...if not...it's same old same old..

I've been wanting this cookbook for a long time now, and finally treated myself today.

I'm really excited and can't wait to try the recipes, and was wondering what your favorite recipes are.

To be honest, most of my favourites are ones that I 'tweak' a little bit.

Here's a list of some of my most used recipes (easy to spot in my book; they're on the dirtiest pages!)

barley soup
black devils food cake
oatmeal and raisin cookies
choc chip cookies
broccoli kugel
basic white cake
sweet potato pie
chickpea salad
arroz con pollo
cantonese fried rice
basic cookie dough
black and white cookies

Congrats! Smile That's my favorite cookbook too, it has so many great essentials.

I like the orange drop cookies, easy whole wheat challah, (also their traditional challah in my white flour days got many compliments), chiffon jelly roll, easy four bean salad, granola recipes, lemon merengue pie (I use the filling for many things, to make sandwich cookies, to fill my jelly rolls etc.). I have tried more but can't remember them off the top of my head, the aformentioned are ones I used this past week alone.

I love these recipes but I can't remember what they're exactly called in the book. As a newlywed, some of the basics were so helpful so that I knew proportions, and basic cooking/baking ideas! I adapted a lot of them though- used different veg, etc.

mushroom barley soup
some sort of italian meatballs and spaghetti in vegetable tomato sauce
sweet and sour meatballs
pepper steak
shnitzel
basic chicken- glaze
israeli salad
potato soup

I always make the honey breaded chicken Tishrei time. the chocolate layer cake is a family tradition for all birthdays.

I make the mushroom/barley soup - meat version every Succos - perfect for the chillier outdoors.
sweet & sour meatballs and Hamburgers are supper favorites.
Occasionally for shabbos I'll make the spinach with egg salad, potato salad, & the broc. & cauliflower salad. ENJOY!

Here's a third vote for the sweet and sour meatballs! My husband LOVES them!

The sweet potato and squash pies are really good as well.

The traditional challah recipe is "perfect challah!" as my husband put it.

The chocolate snowball cookies are fun to make, and taste as good as they look!

Minestrone soup- YUM!

Four-bean Salad is a great dish, easy to put together!

My advice is: Take advantage of all the wonderful reading that they've snuck in there! The section on challah is fascinating, from a kashrus and bread-baker perspective. They offer little blurbs on the yomim tovim, and menu ideas. Also- try not to skim over all the recipes! We've had a spice and spirit at home for YEARS and I only recently discovered some good recipes because I spent a little more time reading each page.

I tried the old fashioned cinn buns for shabbat, and they were so easy to do, and did not last unitl sunday! I drizzled an icing sugar glaze on them. WOW
