No matter what she does she can’t lose weight. She’s 18!

Forgot to say, it’s the strangest paradox, for weight loss you’re recommended fattier cuts of meat. I found ribeye at bingo in lakewood at a reasonable price (10.99/lbs), froze it and with practice learned how to make good steaks. I purchased a 3.5 quart slow cooker and at first put thinly sliced onions (w mandolin) tomato paste, seasonings and a chuck overnight on low. Its was melt in your mouth and delicious in the morning. Other times I put up overnight onions, tomato paste, seasonings, ground beef and added eggs to the slow cooker in the morning for a meaty shakshuka situation, yummy. I know tomatoes and onions aren’t carnivore, but I wanted it to be tasty. After being carnivore over a month, My bachur had meat aversion and depended more on eggs (crispy fried, ate 4 or 6 at a time, scrambled, boiled, poached) tuna, salmon brushed with mustard, spiced and broiled.

OP leave her alone and change your mindset. Hashem made her this way, teach her to be positive with her body, looks, get her a new hairstyle, glasses, pocketbook, shoes, focus on her inner qualities and stop driving her crazy about her weight!!!

She is probably normal with no issues stop focusing on her weight she will find the right boy for her. Not everyone comes in a size 2!

My dd just got married and she isn't skinny, her friends got married and they aren't skinny.

We come in all shapes, colors and sizes.

It sounds like you are insistent on her loosing weight it needs to stop it's not healthy at all.

I'm so sorry for you and your daughter. This is a really hard challenge.

I just want to point out that . 5-1 lb weight loss a week is a healthy rate of weight loss. That doesn't have to be discouraging. That's a normal, healthy weight loss.

Regarding eating very little, I'd look at what she's eating. Perhaps cutting sugar and carbs( which the body converts to sugar) will help?

I just remark that losing more than a pound a week can strain the kidneys.

Losing a half to a pound a week is just what you want. And there will be plateau weeks, but that's fine too.

OP, I really feel for your daughter. Some bodies are just naturally built to a bigger scale.

I'd recommend going to the gym just because being reasonably athletic feels good and makes everyone look better no matter the dress size, but please stop trying to get her to lose weight. It sounds like she's just being made so miserable. The right man will like her as she is. And as far as I can tell, what men really respond to is confidence (after the first few minutes, anyway).

Can you help focus on having her develop a sense of style and fabulous accessories instead?

I came to write this. If she's losing up to a lb a week then that's great, she should keep at it.

I'm currently at a diet eating half of what I usually do * barely lost anything. It's definitely hormonal bc that doesn't allow me to lose Sad

Losing a pound every week or 2 is very consistent, thats wonderful! It takes me 3 weeks tomlose one pound.
I would suggest doing whayever diet helps her lose weight this way (sounds like her body is working beautifully, and is able to lose weight when addressed properly), and to just keep going at it. Slow and steady wins the race.


Also definitely should be exercising at the same time, specifically HIIT fat burning workouts (lots of them on youtube)

No suggestions regarding weight loss..if you live in tristate area please take her shopping in Sorority in Lakewood. It's been a game changer. They have beautiful on trend clothing in plus size. Since they opened a few years ago I finally can shop and come home with clothing that makes me feel and look my best.

I can very much relate. I was like this when I was 18, and I was carefully advised to diet/exercise/eat well for shidduchim. I was very busy--I was in college, working, on a limited budget. Nothing really made a dent in my 150-160lb figure. Nevertheless I found a man who loved me anyway. After 6 pregnancies and my eldest's bar mitzvah coming up, I set out on a year-long quest to lose weight with an extreme diet that I know works for me. Through cycling through it for a year, I came to the realization that my body doesn't want to really go below 160. I was back to wearing the size 10/12 clothes I wore in my single-days. I looked really good and healthy.

Thus, as much as you want her to lose weight, her body type may just not want to.

Right to all. At some point it becomes a matter of health (cholesterol, mobility). But an 18 year old should be healthy. You should get a workup but in all likelihood she is fine. The overweight girls in my grade all got married and are B”H all doing well. They weren’t even among the last ones to get married, they were all somewhere in the middle. The one or two girls who tipped into anorexia, on the other hand, fared far less well.

I just want to expand on this. I have a heavier daughter that's 16. My older boy has a bunch of heavy duty weights and she decided to start doing some weights too. She started off with 15 lbs and now does 30. She started feeling really good about herself, she started walking 2 miles almost every day plus the weightlifting and she also watches what she eats now but nothing crazy. She lost 25 lbs and she looks really nice. Yes, she has more to lose if she chooses, but she sees herself differently.

I have been bigger person my entire life. I tried a million diets. Nothing worked long term. Therapy was the most helpful thing to help me accept my body the way it is and balance that with trying to lose weight without hating myself and the way I look.

How heavy is she?
What is her height and weight?
Is she built like you? Or your husband?
Then it’s genetic
But even those that are genetic have had successful weight loss doing surgery or taking ozempic
