He doesn’t really have one. I basically make sure he goes to bed by 10. But I’m a more relaxed parent. I also see he’s ok and doesn’t need more sleep. Hes also mature and takes care of his showering etc in his own- I don’t micromanage. Sometimes he skips a shower at night and will then wake up early to shower instead etc. if he’s hungry he takes something to eat…

Same.

He has to be in his room at 9:30. He can read or do whatever he wants in there. I don’t make a time that he has to be sleeping by. He usually shuts off his light at 10/10:30

9pm. If he isn't asleep by 9:30 he doesn't get up in the morning.
Recommended sleep time for this age group is 9 to 11 hours.

My 14 year old often goes to sleep by 9:15, he just crashes at the end of the day.

In contrast, my 11 year old is a big reader. He goes to bed around 9:15-9:30 and can easily stay up reading til 10 or later.

8:30 bed, 9 lights out. Realistically it oftentimes gets later. He needs to be up by 6.

She doesn't have one. She's old enough to put herself to sleep at a reasonable hour, and she does. If I find she's abusing her privilege I will gently nudge her towards bedtime. She's usually in between 10:30-11, but she doesn't have to wake up before 8:20 during the year and 9 during the summer, so she still gets plenty of sleep.

Boys need to wake up around 2 hours earlier, so my 13yo will put himself to sleep before 9:30.

Even my 10yo does his own bedtime.

I find that this is the age where it's time to start stepping back and letting them figure out their own schedule. You can guide them, but you really shouldn't be telling kids exactly when to be in bed each night once they hit their preteens.

If you continue micromanaging (like the op of the other thread) it gets harder for them to learn to do it on their own.

My 10 yo/rising 5th grader- in bed by 8:30 summertime, usually awake till about 9/9:15) School was 8, but she was rarely on time. Wakes up year round about 7, but will sleep in if went to bed late.

*This 10 yo DD is a social butterfly and wants a later bedtime, while older DD is a loner and wants to be in bed earlier. So each kid and dynamic is so different!

My almost 12 yo/rising 7th grader- in bed by 9:30 can read till 9:45- summertime. School was in bed by 9, read till 9:15. Wakes up year round about 6/7, doesn't sleep late ever. Usually tired by 9, but hates going to bed while younger sis is awake - they share a room.
