I have wire shelving in my kid's toy closet so I can't stand up the books on the shelves since they'll just fall through so they're just laying there in piles on the shelves and can get messed up easily when someone wants a book from the middle of the pile. Any ideas how to organize them on a budget? I rent my house so I don't want to spend money switching out the wire shelving to build a bookcase. Thanks for any tips or ideas!

Can you put a slab of wood on on the shelf. Or buy a wooden crate to put in sideways?

I use magazine file holders to organize books. It keeps the shelves nice and neat and makes it easy for kids to put the books away.

Use a place mat or other thicker plastic (like lining on pesach) and put on the wire shelves.
Can cut to size.

For which types of books? Novels too?

I like these

It’s easy to slide books in and out and you can line up a bunch of them on a shelf. I use them for kids’ books but they should work well for novels too, you just won’t be able to fit as many in there as the smaller kids’ books. They keep the books upright and easy to see.

These look like a great option for the smaller books but a lot of the books I have are too tall to be stood up on the shelf unless they're on the top shelf which is quite high for my kids to take books by themselves.

This is a cute idea but doesn't look to hold that many books and I have quite a few books. Also, this wouldn't fit in my playroom closet so not sure where I would keep it.

Thanks for the link
So your bookshelves have many of these lined up?

Anyone have a wall bookshelf they have or would recommend that's not too expensive? I have an open wall in my playroom closet which I can technically use for books but need something that lays pretty flat against the wall.

I have this in my pantry which has wire shelving https://www.amazon.com/gp/prod.....psc=1
And we bought this bookcase when it was on sale about a year ago (maybe it was Prime Day), it's holding up fine but I have no idea how it will be long term. It matches other Sauder cabinets we've gotten over the years that are in the same room so for now we're happy with it. Maybe one of the shelves that has a lot of heavier books is starting to bend a drop, but I'm not sure. https://www.amazon.com/gp/prod.....psc=1

I work in a school and I've seen them successfully organize the books in sterlite (or off brands) plastic boxes and the books lined up facing you. Kids can flip thru to find what they need. Can be set up on any flat surface. I did this in my own house as well and its working so well. No books end up on the floor (besides the one they read)

I bought this for pretty cheap in Israel for our books.
I have been really happy with it.
The shelves are slightly wider than all the other wall shelves we could find which we needed for the kids big square books.
We hung it up slightly different so it sat better with the spacing we had. It's style of steps.
