In a poem assignment in 7th grade, I used the word gay as happy. The principal crossed off that word, and changed it to glad. I had no idea why and it didn't rhyme anymore.

We also read The Secret Garden in class that year, come to think of it.

Still feel dumb 30 years later and haven’t forgiven my mother for “waiting for me to ask.” This wasn’t in a chassidish school so most kids knew already but I was still living in my own world.

Yes for the word sx, which is the only word for sx, but no for gay, there are a lot of words that mean "happy" so it's a word we can do without.

IMO, it's a problem with the language that we don't have a good way to say that people literally slept together. Perhaps part of the reason casual just for sleep bed sharing is so taboo is because it's so difficult to talk about without creating implications.
