My husband hates mayo, but sometimes I want to a deli roll! Can I replace it with something else to get the same mouth feel, maybe margarine? Just brainstorming.

I hate mayo. I never put mayo in mine.
I put mustard, honey, fried onions. Pack of pastrami and pack of turkey. Roll it up and smear and duck sauce on top. Make slits and sprinkle sesame seeds.

Of course you dont need mayo. I never put mayo in my deli roll.
I put ketchup, bbq sauce, chutney. Sometimes together, sometimes alone.

Ive warmed up to mayo over the years. I used to detest it. But mayo and deli don't go together ever ever ever.

I learned to make it with mayo and mustard. I make one with duck sauce only for one of my kids. I HATE mayo but it's just a drop and it changes when it's cooked.

Mayo on a deli roll?? That doesn’t sound so good. Maybe it is?
I use lots of mustard and then coat the dough with duck sauce.

All I can think of in terms of mayo on a deli roll is the scene in Annie Hall when the extremely shiksa Annie orders a pastrami sandwich on white bread with mayo

I've heard of many combinations of the following in deli roll:
duck sauce, mustard, fried onions, sweet chili sauce etc...
but never heard of anyone putting mayo in deli roll...

I make it with sweet chilli sauce. Because that's what I always have on hand and hubby hates mayo.

All of y'all are missing out....
The mayo is combined with the other saucy ingredients - ketchup, mustard, duck sauce, etc.
If you spread it on the pastry and then layer on the deli, the sauce melts into the pastry and makes it so, so delicious. You don't taste the mayo at all. It makes the dough moist.
Yummmm.
