I don't think I'm going to start preparing anything until atleast Rosh Chodesh Elul.
I might start to take clothing to get taken in, tho.

Far from thinking of rosh hashona. We are still in the full summer mode. My first agenda is getting shoes for the fall.

I wanted to get dd school shoes before school starts, but her cast might not be off before then. I still need to get school supplies though, if our school ever decides that sending out supply lists would be a good idea.

That is way too far away for me. I still have to wrap up the summer, start the kids' school year and go back to work before rosh hashonah.

When I made challahs this past shabbos, my ds9 wanted raisins in it already. I told him, not yet, especially since he's the only one who likes it with raisins. Rolling Eyes

When do the Jewish stores start stocking up with winter clothes? I went a few weeks ago to browse, and the stores were totally empty. When the big stock coming in?

Probably next week for the Yom Tov clothes. I plan to take my kids for school shoes and yom tov shoes this coming sunday -- before everyone comes home from the catskills and deal. If we wait another week, the lines will be outrageous!

RH is nowhere on my agenda right now. I'm concentrating on just getting through this week until Shabbos. And next week until next Shabbos. And the next week until the next Shabbos. Etc. RH is nowhere in sight.

I've been doubling challah and dessert recipes for a few weeks now as I cook for Shabbos. I have a few desserts in the freezer and like 10 round challahs. Challahs are like $3.50/apiece here, so I saved like $35 dollars so far making all that myself. I still want to squeeze in a little more baking before I go back to school in two weeks.

I also bought my kids new clothes, still need to get for myself. Also want to get my sheitels done, but that can't be done to far ahead.

If you guys have checked your calendars for the upcoming Yomim Tovim you will see that we balabustas are going to be quite busy; it is non-stop Yom Tov, Shabbos, Yom Tov, Shabbos, etc. That means non-stop challahs and chicken soups. So, that is usually where I start. I have a large freezer in my basement at home B'H and I start to cook and bake batch after batch of the 2 aforementioned. I don't even count, when it comes out like this year. After very many batches I start to count and make cheshbonos. If I'm 'there', then I move over to other foods, like cakes, I.e. honey loaves, brownie cakes, sprinkle cakes, etc. Then comes tons of lakshen in containers, divided per seudas. Once the basics are done I start on the more elegant Succos foods, I.e. roasts, gravies, elegant side dishes (that nobody wants to eat Sad ) and so on. In between, we push in some clothing shopping, but in truth, I do most of that on-line. I am also learning with each passing year from my mistakes of the previous years. While it's nice to take my little ones to shul on Simchas Torah with 3 new outfits, one per each shul-going for hakafos, it's a total waste for the rest of the season. Right after Yom Tov the kids just want to be in their comfy velour robes (including boys - they do them in male versions too!) for all Shabbosim while they horse around with the neighbors, and their stunning, expensive clothes from Yomim Tovim gather dust in the closets, until they no longer fit. This year IY"H each child gets ONE new outfit, that is, if last year's doesn't fit anymore.
