I made a kugel with meat directly in my crockpot. The top isn’t crisping. Any idea what to do to get it to crisp?
I can’t transfer to oven as I just kashered it and need it to stay Pareve until Monday

It ends up being a potato kugel stew instead of a firm kugel. You scoop out portions instead of slicing it up.

It's not going to crisp in the crock pot. I don't like crock pot kugel personally

Oh I see. I’ve never had a crockpot kugel before but it came highly recommended by a relative

Mine gets crispy from underneath after a while. I then mush it around every now and again, so that the new underneath layer becomes crispy. Then when you serve it, you have some nice crispy parts that you can slap on top of each serving. Also, by mushing it around every half hour, it helps better to brown the kugel all over and adds to a greater taste.

We find it delicious and addictive.
Triple more gets eaten out of the crockpot Kugel, versus when I make it the oven.
But I must add, it tastes best fresh straight out of the crockpot.
It has to be done right to get that super delicious flavour. See above Post
Also, A nice amount of salt adds a great kick.

I put 2 paper towels under the lid to absorb the moisture so the top isn’t so wet and mushy this helps gets a nice crust- not as crispy as straight of the oven but still very good
