I see people wearing a tied tichel like thing with a brown material in front, maybe meant to look like hair? And I see people wearing that same tichel thing with big bangs in front (like just the bangs of a sheitel) and I see people wearing the tichel with nothing in front.
Is that tichel called a shpitzel? Or the whole things together with the bangs/material?
What's the difference in the types of fronts? |
A Shpitzel is like a cap that goes on your head, with silk threads in the front. On top of that goes a form and then either a tichel or a hat.
A shaitel in the front only (bangs) with a tichel or a hat is called a “front”
Some people wear just a tichel with no Shpitzel.

Can they wear a tichel without a shpitzel? |
Yes and yes. A tichel without a Shpitzel is considered even more frim. But it’s for sure the most common to wear a Shpitzel with a tichel

What about starting with silky tichels before jumping to a shpitzel

.. 💯 true.
But wearing a tchel is not wearing a shpitzel. That's why I was suggesting op take step without jumping

Is blogging and having access to internet in sync with your values that move you towards putting on a shpitzel? Doesn't sound like same medreigah across the board.

I'm not ch'v knocking or questioning those who wear Shpitzels. If someone grew up in such a community I think it is wonderful that she continues to wear one. But for you did not grow in a community that wears them or even seems to value wearing them what is motivating you to want to change?

Why would you want to do this? I understand wanting to cover more, or replace a wig with a more modest hair covering. I could see going from not covering hair to putting on a wig or switching from wigs to a fabric hair covering like a scarf or hat. I don’t understand specifically wanting to wear a shpitzel. It’s not more modest. You’re not doing the mitzva better than just covering your hair with a scarf. A shpitzel is something a specific group uses and will look a little different or strange if you’re not living among people who wear that. It will make you stand out. The whole point of tznius is not standing out.

Op is satmar , the community that wears shpitzlech, so she will not stand out.
In satmar, shpitzlech is a higher level of tznius.
Putting aside the point of whether it's halacha or not to wear a sheitel, a shpitzel is more modest and attracts less attention than a sheitel

In my community there are shpitzlech. Just not in my immediate family

Yes you’re right. For someone who isn’t affiliated with satmar, there’s nothing special about a Shpitzel. And even for someone who is satmar, the main point is to wear a shaitel (hair looking) alternative. It happens to be for me, I thought about other options, (plain tichel, hat ect) and decided on a Shpitzel because I identify with the satmar crowd and want to be seen as a satmar lady.

There are 613 mitzvos. It's not all or nothing. If someone wants to improve in one area you don't ask them if they're perfect everywhere else. It's a tactic of the yetzer hora. Let her start where her heart desires and don't discourage a beautiful thing.

Well said and so true! Thank you. And to be honest this whole thing has changed a lot of aspects of my Yiddishkiet for the better. Especially in regards to tznius.
